Important note - the St. Patty's Day party is now officially the "First Annual St. Patty's Day Bender". not a hullabaloo. not a jubilee. not a blow-out nor just a regular old party. It's a Bender !

Killer little joint. Has the feel of the Gypsy Tea Room. Cavernous and dark with great accoustics. The staff are all great, the drinks come fast, and the pool room upstairs is a great little distraction without missing out on the music. Sundays open Mic celebration is a blast and last time I was there it was filled with all those young lovely's swing dancing. A great way to get set for the week. My only warning is watch that top step on the stairs. Its a long way down!

I think my mom (yes, I went here with my mom) put it best when she said that she's lived in Dallas almost her whole life and never thought she'd live to see a place like this in downtown Dallas. Downtown finally has a venue that compares to some of the great places in Chicago and elsewhere. We had a great time and hope to get back here again soon.

Finally made it over to meet the place. A former theater we had ten years back rehearsed upstairs where pool tables now sit.
Was a dress shop then - much better as a Jazz Club. ;o)
Nice vibe - really nice. "A Slick Dive" I'd have to call it. You guys are on to something!

Oh wow...I just read that Shawn Pittman is going to be there on the 30th. This guy is unbelievably talented. I will have to mark that one on my calendar.

Tracy/Rick - Do you guys have Shawn Pittman confirmed for the 30th? He doesn't have it listed on his website calendar. I know his...uh, artistic nature made him a little hard to pin down performance wise. But then that was ages ago.

Sorry Jason. I haven't seen Shawn perform in years. He was phenomenal in his early twenties and I am really curious to see how he has matured. He doesn’t make it to Dallas often enough so I am going to round up a bunch of hoodlums and crash Rick and Tracy’s party.

Yes he is "confirmed" and we are expecting a big crowd :-) I used to watch him back when he VERY young and he was good back then. I also saw him a few months ago play with Cheryl Arena and he still has it goin' on. Looking forward to his show.

Snap! Tomorrow's a no cover Friday. Might have to hit y'all up.
As Pavel stated elsewhere, we're likely perched atop the bar in our VIP room casting down judgment - please wait until we descend to say hi.
Wish we'd have gotten the names of those newly weds we hung out with last time. A+ company - maybe they'll see this and post (wifey tried helping our 21st b-day boy woo a young lady).

New thing happenin' on Monday nights, 9-ish (after Marcy's show) - "Hip Card Punched" - hosted by Pat Boyack - blues, R&B, and funky stuff. This has been going on for a few weeks now and has turned into a pretty cool night of music - guests showing up in the last few weeks include Cheryl Arena, Hash Brown, Aaron Burton, Sonny Collie, Wes Race....
Special guests for tonight - well, he won't name names, just said "a few ladies will show up and there just might be an appearance by a South Dallas sensation..."

Tracy, considering I know not of this Michelle Shocked I'll respectfully refrain from voting.
However, I will say that tonight's encore by Rick was effing mind-blowing. I was astonished in every sense of the word. Though I can't make it back Wednesday of next week due to scheduling conflicts, following Wed (believe it's the 10th) I'll insist on a similar performance.

Holy CR@P Rick! The sound in that room is incredible. I'm gawking at the ceiling and walls --- no treatments and it sounds like a zillion bucks!
And $5 cover was a freakin' steal.

Don't worry - I entered incognito (dressed as Ed McMahon). By the time they realized McMahon was actually too dead to have attended, I had the bartender at slide-rule point and it was just one long negotiation.

Ok, Michelle is a go for Friday Oct 23rd!!
Jason, thanks for coming by, and for your kind words re: the sound, we work hard on that part, believe it or not. Those mains are 12" (most people think they are 15"), aimed strategically to cover the room without creating mud. Also the VIP room helps to break up any bad bouncing. The subs round everything out, and I really cannot say enough good things about the mackie powered speakers! The first time Milton Hopkins played there, he said - "people spend thousands of dollars on equipment, trying to make it sound just like this room!".
Tonight - Live recording session for Holland K Smith - should be a blast!!

Just a note for those of you who are friends of the late great Zeke Durrell - we are hosting a memorial celebration of Zeke's life here at Pearl this Saturday Jan 9th at 3pm. There will be toasts and live music from the musicians who knew him best. All friends of Zeke are welcome.
Zeke Durrell was the percussionist for the band Southwest FOB in the 60s, who had a hit single "The Smell of Incense". In more recent years he played percussion for the Rick Yost Group, Cheap Fast & Easy and others. Zeke died unexpectedly on Saturday, from complications from pneumonia.
