Pizza By Marco

Description

Pizza By Marco is open 365 days a year.

Alan Cohen, staff:

I've been eating at Marco's for as long as I can remember. In my opinion, Marco's and Pietro's are the two best pizzas in Dallas.

I highly recommend the plain cheese pizza on the low carb wheat crust. At least thats what I always get, but I'm not very adventurous with my pizza.

If you like cracker bread crust, sparse toppings and charbroiled pizza, then this place is for you. What a disappointment. "Best Pizza in Dallas 2004" - who did they pay off? When I examined our pizza and found it to be "extra crispy", I brought it to the attention of the young lady behind the counter. She was kind enough to say "I'm sorry", but offered no replacement, no reduced cost, coupons, nothing. I did mention that my kids were hungry, and that we would try to eat the charbroiled pizza anyway, but c'mon... no service either. I hope for their sake that someone from Marco's reads this. My first and last time at this restaurant.

I prolly shouldn't be taking offense to this comment, but I grew up on Marco's. While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, I have never had the experience that you have had, nor do I know anyone who has had even a similar experience ... and that you complaining about the service at Marco's makes me think that don't get the point of a "take-out" place.

The experiences of these bloggers who are posing the question "what is the best pizza in Dallas" seems more accurate to me:

This is my favorite comment by JRK about halfway down the page -

"I have not live in Dallas since 1982, to this day I compare all pizza to Marco's in Preston Royal plaza. Few come even close. That is the best pizza on the planet. Race home when you get it or you will have a huge greasy stain in the seat as it soaks through the box."

A 5 for the food since that's what Marco's is all about. No dine in (well hardly), no delivery. Just my favorite pizza in Big D. The smell of yeast knocks you over when one enters. I'm suprised Dallas' finest haven't raided the place for running a still because that's what it smells like! Like the movie Mystic Pizza, Marco's has a certain flavor/aroma that one can't quite put one's finger on. As the lady in the movie says, "You bet your sweet ass you can't!"

I heard from a friend that this place had vegan soy toppings (cheese, pepperoni, sausage) as options, so I was extremely interested in trying it (being vegan and all). Anyway, it's been about a year since I've had cheese on a pizza, and let me just say that this was the best pizza I've had in a long time, regardless of the cheese. I've yet to find any other pizza joint in the area that has this as an option.

The thin crust was extra crispy, just enough sauce so that it was not dry, but not too much to make it all soggy and floppy. The sauce had a great flavor (which I think is often overlooked, as it seems most places with crappy sauce just try to cover it up with more cheese).

For those of you that have had vegan cheese in the past, you may know how's often difficult to get that melty-gooey texture of cow-cheese, but whatever cheese they use is just about as good as it gets (I had to call back and confirm that I really did get the vegan cheese and pepperoni).

Anyway, to the previous comment about service - like Alan said, this is clearly a take-out joint, there are a few small tables available to sit down if you wanted just a quick eat-and-go, but it's not like you would actually ever plan on eating there.

I suspect their cow-cheese pizza is just as fantastic if you're not into the vegan soy thing, so don't get all bent-out-of-shape about the fact that they offer this.

I wish it was a little closer to home, but it says something given that I'll be frequenting this place, even if it's a 15 minute drive.

FYI...there is a new location @ Preston & Beltline in North Dallas. This new location has larger indoor seating, plus pizza-by-the-slice lunch specials.

Team PegNews was fueled by Marco on relaunch night and everyone was very happy. Guys who generally thought BBQ chicken pizza was blasphemy wolfed it down with high praise. And for those of us stuck on a no-carb diet, the pecan salad was as good as a salad could be when surrounded by pizza.
