There’s always talk in Dallas of how one taco place is better than the next one, or how some ones tacos are the “best” ever. Well, all those other taco places are great, and believe me, I’ve tried most. I try to visit a new place for lunch or dinner every day, but lately I find myself going back to one place in particular. Listed on Google as Taqueria & Rositas (and incorrectly so!) makes Rosita’s Taqueria truly a hidden gem. If you don’t know what a “taqueria” is, this is a place where tacos and other Mexican dishes are prepared. It’s almost like saying burger joint or pizzeria.

I’ll start by describing my favorite tacos to you, “tacos de trompo,” traditionally known as “tacos al pastor.” The word “trompo” means top (as in the toy) in Spanish. These tacos are made with seasoned pork that slowly rotisseries vertically. The cut of meat on the rotisserie looks very much like a top, hence the name “trompo.”

Enough of the Spanish lesson. The meat rotates and cooks slowly, and when an order is placed, the meat is shaved of the rotisserie in a very similar manner that Brazilian steakhouses cut meat at your table. The tender seasoned pork is then served on top of four soft corn tortillas. This delicious and tender pork meat is topped with sautéed and chopped white onion, fresh cilantro, and slices of lemon ready to squeeze on top. There are two salsas served with your meal, a green and a red salsa. Both full of flavor and spice, I would have to suggest you attempt eating your “tacos de trompo” with the spicier of the two, the green one. Now, if you choose the green pill, please make sure you order an “agua de horchata.”

If you’re in the mood for something with a golden crispy crunch, I would recommend you try the flautas platter. The word “flautas” translates to flutes. The reason this dish is called “flautas” is due to the larger size of corn tortillas used, when rolled up and deep fried -- yes, I said deep fried -- looks like a flute. This platter is served with Mexican rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream on the side, and three golden crispy chicken stuffed flautas. Traditionally, you would spread the guacamole, sour cream, and salsa on top of each flauta, but if this turns out too messy for you, I guess you could dip the flautas in the guacamole and other sides. However, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the full experience, so I say go for the gold and make a mess.

This is truly a place to try, even if you have to make a trip. Go by for lunch or on the weekend; it's worth it!

Taqueria Rositas‎ is located on 910 S Hampton Rd. just north of Clarendon. They are open 6 day a week, closed all day Tuesday.

Whenever I am in Dallas I MUST stop here and get some Tacos. The "aguas" which are fruit blended waters..are so refreshing. The service is quick and always correct. It's a family run business so someone is always there to give AMAZING service, I once saw them still letting people order to go well after there closing time posted. The only issue I have is deciding what to order, Tacos or a gringa? or my new fav. a Tosada de cerverdia.. I have no idea if that is spelled correctly, but it's AMAZING!!
