4/5Right off the McKinney Ave craziness, this place has the perfect mix of great food and fun vibe. Please don't go on Mondays -- 1/2 price pizza night - it's already getting too crowded.

2/5Another pleasant spring morning, afternoon, whatever, if I don't feel like getting out of bed before 11 on a Saturday, so what?
There's parking right outside. The liquor store has temporary 15 minute parking signs outside. Whatever, not like they make the bylaws in this city.
There's a large patio and we tie up the Tosa Inu to the fence. The staff love her and she's taking up the scratches with aplomb.
It was sort of a late night, we we're sticking with waters - tap, naturally.
I start with the chicken soup. I'll have to say, it's delicious, with a salty but not overpowering start followed with a punch of cilantro and ginger and finishing with a hint of garlic. I'm into it.
I need a strange sensory stimulation. I want to order off the savory menu, but it's not until later. Instead, I order a buffalo chicken sandwich, yeah, with fries - I am out of control. She goes for the portabello sandwich.
It's really a great setting. Shade, light breeze, friendly staff and patrons. It feeds right into Dallas' New York inferiority complex!
Anyway, the fries are fine. They're dusted with coarse salt, which helps. The sandwich is pretty much breaded chicken with sweet chili sauce. I know, you're thinking, hey, it's just a buffalo chicken sandwich. Look, I wanted to have the sandwich kick my face. This sandwich stopped by, said hi and kept on going.
The portabello sandwich is disappointingly tasteless. I think portabello should be the steak of fungus, but this sandwich was about as robust as the Easter Bunny. The pesto was also tasteless and the vinagrette on the salad had no punch whatsoever.
I really wish the food had been better. I enjoyed my time watching the America's cup with good company. Realistically, we'll be back with expectations and I hope they pull it that time. See you then.

3/5I wish the food was better, since it's kinda a nice place to go and sit outside and have a beer. I've given it plenty of tries, but always just wish it was better. Had the pulled pork sandwich once - not very good at all. Have had their pizza's more than once and they're okay. If its one of their half price nights its a good deal. Had the cheese plate once - okay.
Really in a great location, walkable part of town, has a patio. Has all that going for it, but the foods just - okay.

5/5Ah State & Allen, how I love your clever menu, your patio (so cozily heated during our five-hour Dallas winters), your lovely waitstaff.
Here are some items to make you hungry: * Prosciutto & poached eggs benedict * Pumpkin flan with caramel sauce & a pecan wafer * Baby spinach salad with steak, oranges, bleu cheese, raspberries and a warm bacon vinaigrette
Their cheese plates are TLE (The Living End) and their wine selection's impeccable. It's a casual and comfortable environment, but without a compromise on taste. Yum.

4/5One of my favorite places in Dallas. Good consistant food and service. It's hard to beat the patio on a beautiful day or evening. Very dog friendly.
When you go, tell Joe and the staff that Pip sent you. ;)

4/5I'm not one for fancy descriptions - but my Buffalo Chicken Sandwich was amazing. I didn't expect much from a choice like that. Will be back.

5/5Casual, easygoing spot for upscale American cuisine in Uptown. Check out the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with its spicy, tangy sauce, the brioche (?) bun, and the rich bleu cheese. Wash it down with a Michelada (a cocktail made with beer and Worcestershire sauce, among other fine ingredients). Delicious combinations! And enjoying the weather while sitting out on the patio isn't too shabby either.

3/5Good place, good patio, good people watching. Sandwiches are a bit overpriced, but the food is usually solid. Nothing spectacular though - basic sandwiches, pizzas, etc. I like the bacon avocado cheeseburger quite a bit. Great place to chill on a nice day.

5/5My husband works nearby so take out from State and Allen is a regular occurrence in my home. Always on the list is the margarita pizza - thin wood fired style crust, fresh mozzarella and basil. It is probably my favorite pizza this year (along with Coal Vines and as always Campisi). I suppose it is really wrong to order pizza and fries but I admit I have done it. I have eaten just about every item on the casual menu and I don't think there is anything that I would not order again. The chicken sandwich is a generous portion of chicken with basil pesto and wheat bun (wheat/chicken - that's my healthy item :) or you can order it with the buffalo sauce if you are trying to avoid the breaded version but don't like the pesto. The patio here is nice - heated, air conditioned, tvs, super dog friendly. While most folks in this neighborhood don't have kids yet, I am there with mine all the time and no one seems bothered or maybe I am just not bothered by their lack of kids. Good place for watching sports without a sports bar environment.
