3/5My wife and I visited Sushi Fugu this evening and had a mixed experience. As we walked in we saw noticed the very moden decor with dark shades of brown and red, noticeably devoid of asian influence. While we missed the Japanese touches we were used to in sushi restaurants, we still appreciated the skillful interior design. Unfortunately, we were immediately bombarded with a techno trance soundtrack in what we felt was part of their overabundant effort to be trendy. The waitress was friendly, but she didn't seem to appreciate it when we took some extra time to review the menu. My wife is pregnant, so she went with a light vegetarian selection of cucumber and avocado rolls. I chose their "Hell Roll", spicy tuna and cucumber topped with salmon and a couple of spicy sauces.
The sushi was fantastic! Very fresh and flavorful. However, instead of an avocado roll my wife was given an "Avocado Dynamite" entree with assorted seafood on top of a half-avocado in a bed of rice. When we pointed out the mix-up to our waitress, her response was to claim that they didn't have an avocado roll, and that the "Dynamite" was the only avocado selection they offered. When we pointed out the avocado roll on the ordering sheet, she continued to say that they didn't offer one and said she didn't know why they had it on the menu. This seemed quite odd to us because it's a very basic roll that we've seen in many other sushi establishments.
Overall, as good as the food was it wasn't enough to outweigh the forced trendiness and dubious service. We do not plan to return.

5/5Tried this place 19 Jan 2012 through a Groupon we purchased. What a great place. The atmosphere was neat and unsophisticated. The music was pleasing in the background. The service excellent. The food some of the best I've had. We will return without reservation.
