That Tuesday night trivia game is very challenging, but I enjoy learning new things while I am kicking back.

My kids liked the games in the back. I liked the high enclosed dinner sections on the side. My favourite dish is the Shepherd's Pie. The desserts are great too, especially the bread pudding. The parking is awkward since the restaurant is on the corner.

What, they serve food, who knew? I thought Guiness was one of the major food groups. Just kidding, this is my favorite bar in Dallas. But in fact they have an excellent kitchen.

Is there a posting contest going on?

Or is this just a clambe bake?

Of course they had their kids in the bar. If they're going to grow up to be healthy irish spudheads, you gotta start training them early.

I actually really like the place. When we went, they had a band playing Irish music, which was always cool. The waiter was nice, and seemed to put up with our drunken shenanigans quite well. I don't remember how much the drinks cost, but it was quite reasonable, and the food people were eating looked and smelled delicious.

I approve.

Pavel, I'm not sure what drinks you were paying for, but it was $5 for a well drink and ~$6 for a decent beer (read: Guinness or something mixed with it).

Aside from what I felt were pricey pints, I dig the place. Had a big pretzel with a pretty amazing sauce (don't remember exactly what it was, and I don't see it on the site's menu). The Irish music was awesome, and the one time I went to the bloodsport trivia it was alright. Will definitely go back, but probably won't drink so many $6 beers this go-around. =p

The Tipp Inn is a decent lil’ Irish Pub. For some it can be a little hard to find... well, for those not really accustomed to getting down into the Lakewood area.

They have a decent beer/drink selection, and I didn’t find the pricing particularly obtrusive, all things considered of the Dallas drinking scene.

There’s usually some sort of live music out front, and they have some pool tables and dart boards in the back room.

I know the fish and chips are rated a D Mag favorite, but when I tried this dish, it just seemed a bit too... fishy tasting for me. On the next visited I opted for the safety of chicken strips, can’t mess that up too much. One of my friends also digs their Shepherd’s Pie, if you’re in to that sort of fare.

VERY sad to just receive an email that this terrific 'pub' is closing at the end of this week. Makes me very sad because this is a good place with good people and good service and great fish and chips. Damn this economy. Email letter to customers reads as follows:

Dear Friends of the Tipperary:

It is with heavy heart that I announce the closing of "theTipp" this Saturday, May 16th.

I very much would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to all of the wonderful customers, groups, associations and musical talent we have had the pleasure of meeting and working with these past five years. As you all know, the Tipp has been my family run business and many of you have gotten to know not only myself, but that of my wife Ellen, daughter Beth and granddaughter Meghan who have been regular fixtures at the pub.

Due to the downturn in the economy with declines in sales and an unsuccessful lease renegotiation, we have decided to close our doors. These past five years have been a great experience for us. We have met and have special relationships with so many wonderful people here - we will greatly miss you all. We will certainly treasure many of the memories and special occasions that we have hosted at the pub.

We will finish up the week with our normal schedule of events including Monday Karaoke, Tuesday Trivia, Wednesday Poker, Friday night with Paddy Gone Wild and Saturday host The Trinity River Whalers CD release party. We hope to see you this week here at the Tipp.

Sincerely,

Tim (& Ellen Russi)

I'm sorry to hear of your pub's closing. A friend had told me about how wonderful it was and I was looking forward to coming by on my next visit to Dallas. Best wishes to you and your family.

What do you think?
