5/5I've been eating at this place for 14 years. I've experienced the good and the bad of the previous 4 owners and it really shines with the fifth and newest owner. First thing noticed is that it finally has a welcoming vibe - brighter lighting and colors now surround you with more uptempo and varied background music, but still accommodating a relaxed attitude without the dull dark brown interior and sleep-inducing music from before. The food is incredible. Saturdays used to be the only "special" day on the buffet - meaning more variety - but it seems that everyday is Saturday at Veggie Garden now because the cooks take pride in their excellent skills in not only creating new unique vegan dishes, but they are sampled and tested by the owner before they make it out of the kitchen onto the easy-to-navigate buffet. We're talking everything from a small salad or crispy and tasty egg-roll with soup that you may begin your feast with to the main dishes of fresh vegetables and mock-meats. BBQ strips anyone? That and the "Ocean Tofu" are especially succulent with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. I'm a big fan of sweet-and-sour...well, almost anything...but the "shrimp," "pork," and "chicken" versions are heavenly delights. Desserts from most vegan (or even vegetarian) restaurants often are a disappointment for me - usually they come out too pasty or gummy - but a recent try of the "peanut roll" (which the best way to describe it would be a "Chinese Butterfinger") was a delightful new treat that had a wonderful consistency that made me hope that it becomes a regular item. The "cinnamon pillows" have made a welcome comeback after being unavailable for years. Many of the regulars have noticed that this change is really for the better. The previous owners (just before the current one) were very sweet, but, in the end, quite naive about what was needed and desired in this area of Richardson/North Dallas: incredible food in an uplifting atmosphere that will make your return to your day job invigorating without that tummy-heavy feeling that can sometimes make you feel lethargic. Dallas/Ft. Worth has a surprising number of good restaurants that cater to the healthiest of individuals, but when you combine a happy atmosphere with good food and great service - all at a very reasonable price as found at Veggie Garden - you have a winning combination.

5/5I absolutely adore this place! I come here at least once a week, but usually twice. They have the most convincing, juicy "meat" I've ever had. Prices are fair and you get massive portions but I recommend trying this place during the buffet hours to get a feel for the extent of their talent behind the oven/stove first. The staff are consistently nice and I have never been disappointed by the quality of service or food.
