General Info:

Description

If Victory Tavern sounds generic, with its "casual American" cuisine and "boutique beers," keep in mind that it comes from Patrick Colombo, responsible for winners such as Sfuzzi, Nick & Sam's (which he co-founded with Phil Romano), Ferré, and Cru. With so many of the restaurants at Victory Park being themed, this becomes the comfortable fallback for diners not in the mood for Italian or pricey steak. Opening chef Jeff Moschetti left to go to Stephan Pyles, and was been replaced by Zachary Wilber, who worked at Duce and Del Frisco’s in Fort Worth; current executive chef is Shawn Alvarez.

My first experience with Victory Tavern was at a work event at which they provided the compulsory nibbles. For once (unless Stephen Pyles is the nibble provider du jour) the food was not only edible, it was delicious. When Restaurant Week rolled around and I saw that VT was on the list, I immediately signed up for myself and about 10 friends. We were not disappointed. Prompt seating and attentive staff made everyone in our group feel welcome and appreciated. Our choices for the Amuse Bouche were Blue Agave Marinated Beef Tenderloin on Tortilla Crisp Candied Lime & Jalapeño Jelly with Smooth Avocado and Micro Cilantro, Grilled Asparagus with Portobello mushroom, proscuitto, Texas goat cheese and herb vinaigrette or Braised Beef Potstickers with pomegranate dipping sauce. I was able to sample each offering and all were outstanding. For our salad, most went with the wedge and for the entree, the Seared Halibut with asparagus-shi*take (it wouldn't let me post the word as a whole, accusing me of typing something naughty, ha!) mushroom risotto, yellow tomato and butter sauce was the crowd favorite although the salmon and 6 oz filet did not disappoint either. Desserts were decadent and everyone left feeling satisfied and knowing they would return.

Since that first visit, VT has become a Victory Park staple for my friends and I, especially if we are heading to the AAC. It's must-do for a pre-game drink and the most reasonable parking in the area, where just $7 (and something purchased inside the restaurant) gets you valet and 20 feet from the AAC doors. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up.

Went to a private party here for about 30 or 40 people a few weeks ago and they provided great service. They put us upstairs in a separate loft area that overlooks the restaurant. The service was great, not just good. There was always a waiter around to take drink orders and the drinks arrived promptly despite what appeared to be a busy night in the dining room. They had mini-burgers which were very good, as well as cocktail shooters that looked good. I think its a great setting for a party and would go back to try the dining room.

Parking may be an issue, but Victory Tavern is definitely worth the trip - especially during the lunch hour. It wasn't crowded, the service was great, and I enjoyed my food. I had a burger and fries. The burger didn't WOW me, but it is better than burger at TGI Fridays or another chain. I really like the french fries, and I am not a big french fry guy.

I've also been here after Stars game, and it is a good place to end a night and wait for traffic after the game. The beer selection is good, but is a bit pricey. Other than that, I highly recommend the place - especially if you want to entertain a couple of out of town friends without breaking the bank.

Eh, on the whole I guess it was alright. You’re almost guaranteed to have to valet or at least pay to park somewhere around there. Considering this is a Patrick Colombo venture, I guess I was expecting something more upscale or chic I guess. But it almost has that sports bar feel to it. The dining room just doesn’t seem like it’s very full, maybe I’ve just been on slow nights. The steak was decent, but overall it wasn’t something that I’d be dying to head back down there to try again. It seemed like most of the people like the bar area more. And this has been on nights when the Mavs weren’t playing.
