WORST restraunt experience EVER.
My son selected this restraunt to celebrate his 21st birthday. This being our 1st time to dine here we were excited to try a new place. Upon ordering our drinks, the waitress said that the manager insisted on a second identification from my son. We informed her that this was our son and he was legit and provided the second ID. I told the waitress that I was a bit embarrassed about the request and asked her to mention it to the manager.
A few minutes later the manager came to our table with a definite confrontational attitude. He said that most parents come to this restraunt and lie about the age of their children. He had words with my son at which point we decided to leave.
We went down the street to the Point and had a great hamburger and good time. It is not as fancy but is far better than the Z Bar.
The Z Bar & Grill is a loser just like the manager.

Doyle you must be the protector of Z's. Do you and Mr. Albood not know the name of the game when coming to restaruants, "great good, great service". I am sure you have no problems being there protector and all. Lapdog was right there are other great restaraunts to choose from instead of Z's. And with restaraunts closing daily Mr. Albood better reconsider his attitude towards his food and service or he will be the next one to shut down.

I have had some interesting dining experiences...just thought I'd share.
I have never been much of a complainer at restaurants. I've had numerous bad experiences, but this tops them all…last night at Z Grill & Tap in Flower Mound, TX
My co-workers and I went into Z Grill & Tap for drinks. Before we could step in the door good we were “greeted” by a very rude waitress. The group spoke to her and tried to make small talk and was told “Look I need your drink orders and I have other tables to tend to…so what do you want to drink?” At this point we all looked at each other and said “someone is having a bad day”. While having drinks, my co-workers and I decided to order chips and queso. Before the queso comes out, the rude waitress comes to the table with a stack of plates and utensils and hands them to my coworker as if he works there. We all look at each other again and laugh about it. At this point we were met with an unpleasant "surprise". The manager/owner, Al Abbood, comes out with our order and takes it around the restaurant and allows four different tables to hover and breathe on the order. It gets worse- the manager/owner, Al Abbood, comes to our table with our order and asks if we ordered this and we all replied “yes”, and he takes it to another table and asks if they ordered it and the replied “no”. So Al takes it back to the rude waitress and she brings it to us after it had been passed around to a total of five tables. At this point, I was very upset with the service and asked the waitress to bring out a fresh bowl of queso and she replied” are you serious?!” I replied “yes I am”….so she removes the bowl of queso from the table and takes it to the back for about 20 sec., then brings it back to the table as if she really grabbed a fresh bowl. At this point, I flagged down the manager/owner, Al Abbood, and I asked for the bill to be adjusted due to the inconvenience and I was told NO (by the pathetic manager/owner Al Abbood ). I have to pay for it…Wow I was really surprised. I told Al I would pay for the chips and salsa but not the queso…He tells me “you are going to pay for the queso and that is that”. So I said to myself we will see. At this point I asked for my bill and guess who brings it over? Our friend/manager/owner, Al Abbood. It had my drink and the chips and queso on the ticket, so I told Al again that I would not pay for the queso. He then tells me “you will, or I will call the police”. I told Al to call the police…so he does. My coworker then gets up and meets Al at the front of the restaurant and he pays Al for the chips and queso to keep the peace…so Al returns back to the table and says “You have a good friend; he took care of the queso. I just need my money for your drink and I need you to leave with the police”. The police then shows up and walks me out of the bar and proceeds to question me on what took place. I told them what happened, and one of the officers replied “This guy does this all the time and he has had many complaints about the service at his place of business”. Al comes outside with me and the police and asks for a criminal trespass from the officers and I laugh and replied “you do not have to worry; I will never ever visit this place again”. So the officer issues me a trespass citation and tells me not to come back. To top it all off, Al comes back out of the bar and tells the officer I need to pay for the queso...I replied, “My coworker has already paid you” and with that, he replies that his money was reimbursed and that I need to take care of my own bills. My favorite line was what he ended with: “you mess with the wrong guy!” The officer told me to just pay for the $8 bowl of queso and you don’t have to see this place and guy again. The officer tells me I can take him to court, but it will cost me $25 to file. Believe me I will take this court!

Mr. Abbood, I appreciate your apologies, but I am shocked at your response. Obviously, there was a misunderstanding at your restaurant last weekend. I take STRONG exception to your statements that my husband cursed at our server, you or your wife. He is neither aggressive nor accustomed to cursing at people. Your daughter's comments on the way out the door were the first curse words I heard and then my husband responded to her comment. Her comments were not provoked and therefore cannot be qualified as a retaliation. If you do not remember, my husband was carrying our 2 year old son when he came to speak to a manager about our service. Why did you not identify yourself at that time as the owner of the restaurant, or if he was behaving as you claim....call the police?? I am sorry you have to make up such lies to defend the situation that occurred at your restaurant. While this will remain a "he said, he said" situation for most of the other readers here, I encourage them to read other unrelated bad reviews of your restaurant at yelp.com, citysearch.com and mytravelguide.com.

Dear Mrs. Skyflomo Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Al Abbood. I own Z Grill & Tap. I am very aware that you had an unpleasant experience in my restaurant Saturday evening and for that i apologize. Yes, the server did forget to put in your order. That said, we made every attempt to deliver your salad in a timely manner. I keep a log on "issues" and your order was delivered within 4 minutes of the time it was reported to the kitchen.
When your husband approached me, he did not ask that his salad be "comped", he demanded it without reason other than his statement that the service....well I am not going to repeat what he said. Based on the nature of his tone, and that he swore at my server, I informed him that I would not comp it but I would give him 50% off which I did. I guess he was not happy about this and he proceeded to curse at me. Strike two for poor behavior. Separately your husband cursed at my wife and last, yet again on a separate occasion, he cursed at my 18 year old daughter. Strike three and four. Yes, it was wrong for my daughter to retaliate, and for her I apologize. The purpose of my response is to let you know that if your husband's behavior was not so overly aggressive and belligerent, the outcome would have been different for all involved. I have no objection to people recounting a bad experience on Pegasus. As a business, we learn from our mistakes. I do take exception when the attack becomes personal and without all pertinent facts as in this case. I have clearly stated my case and wish to move on. I will not repond to any other comments made on this matter.
Again, my apologies for your unpleasant experience and the server error.

They do keep the cold ones coming, and do have a fun selection of beers on draft. I agree, I expect the inevitable issues at restaurants. However, I don't expect to be cursed at in a self-proclaimed "family restaurant". That's why we won't be back.

Teresa, in all honesty and disclosure, I have paid a visit to Z Grill recently. As the other posters have mentioned, this place is seriously lacking quality in food and customer service, hence why I posted my review on the other site mentioned.

Maybe its time for Pegasus, Yelp and the other restaurant review sites to join forces to push these guys out of business once and for all, as ive read tons of reviews of how this Al Abood guy and his worthless staff are no better than crooked camel traders and have the attitudes to go along with that. Part of this maybe the culture of where these folks come from. In America, we do business differently and treat our guests/customers with respect. We're polite and respectful, even if they are difficult. In their part of the world, its the art of the treating people, especially women with disrepect, hence why the persian empire collasped. Al Abood took over a very successful restaurant and brought in his own people to run it, in the process he has driven down quality of his product(food, drink, customer service) all in an effort to turn a bigger buck. Al and his lowlife family will be out of business soon..

Well, I'll start by saying that I would have been reluctant to give much credit to the negative reviews previously posted here, until our experience tonight. We went to Z's, as we often do, for the good food and casual environment in which we feel comfortable eating with our toddler son. I did not know until tonight that ownership had changed hands. We were there with another couple and their son as well. Our appetizer arrived and was tasty (asiago and olives-can't go wrong there!). The meals were served shortly thereafter by the food runner (not the waiter), minus my prime rib dip sandwich. I encouraged the rest of the party to go ahead and start without me. 10 minutes later, the waiter came by and said he forgot to order my sandwich and it would be an additional 10 minutes before it would be ready. No big deal, people make mistakes. I ordered a salad and received it after everyone else in our party had finished eating. When we were brought the ticket, my husband asked if there wasn't something that could be done, such as my salad comp'ed for our trouble. (Sorry, Doyle, but I don't consider myself a freeloader and certainly wasn't looking for a free meal this evening.) The waiter disappeared with the ticket then return it with no changes and no comment. My husband then ask to speak to a manager (in the few times we've EVER had a problem at restaurants, we are usually attended with apologies immediately by a manager). He spoke with Al Abood who, in a very brusk manner, confirmed he would not comp the salad. My husband was shocked, and responded that this was the worst customer service he'd exerienced, to which Mr. Abood responded that, wait, he would take 50% off the salad. My husband said to forget it and returned to the table. Here's the kicker, we get our change and leave the restaurant walking by the HOSTESS, who says, "Then, don't F*^%ing come back." Yes, I kid you not, with my husband carrying my toddler son. She said that as we passed her, standing next to an older woman who I believe may have been a manager. Unbelievable. We will NOT visit Z's or Sonoma again, nor will the couple we dined with, and hopefully not any of the friends and family in FloMo I will pass the word to. Pegasus, go ahead and check my IP address and last name, I do not know KMC grandma, JaniceT, JoeTuttle or efranks. This is no conspiracy.

Restaurants are where you eat food and not places where you play bridge! Social Clubs & community centers are free and hotels rent you rooms for that purpose.
To the lady who worries that her reputation is ruined - you did it yourself by being so cheap and campaigning against the restaurator just because he didn't fall for your high and mighty attitude and demanded for the food your friend ordered. If you don't pay for what you have ordered you deserve whatever the names he called you. Restaurants and those who serve us have families to feed, too. And you say all that happened in front of your 9 years old child. Horrors! You should think about what kind of example you were setting for your child when you collectively tried to cheat the man. I feel for your son.
And frankly I believe the staff when they repeatedly write that there is a smear campaign going on.

Thank you Alex Bentley. I really enjoy this site, so happy to have found it. However, if the comments start to take on a generally snarky tone, I will lose interest quickly. I used to live in the Mound, so I was interested in the comments here. There are at least 4 or 5 negative posts, so unless you think it is a conspiracy by a direct competitor (or in an opposite situation, an owner telling all his/her friends to post bouquets), the staff need to let it go and show your readers some basic courtesy.

Totally concur on realistic AND objective. I'm sure this cat comps stuff all the time if there's a botched order or something. Seems to me these peeps were probably quite confrontational.
Owners and servers lose repeat business and customers lose what could be a fantastic dining expierence in the future.
And...
A little gesture like that goes a long way in building a solid relationship w your customers. More often than not they will feel more comfortable in revisiting your business and having a great meal and paying full price. Everybody wins.
I'm just guessing, but I bet this guy would rather these people not frequent his place or invite their panhandling friends to join them. I served tables in college, etc - doesn't take someone in the industry to realize some people simply aren't desired customers.

I agree that EXPECTING free product is absurd. Not a single person on this earth should feel entitled to anything.
However, When you buy a dining establishement you should know that these are situations that are going arise on a random basis.
Having been in the industry over 15 yrs and as a current GM for a restaurant downtown I just feel that if a comp is not warranted it is still important to handle the situation in a calm and professional manner.
It goes without saying that people are the most important part of this industry. If a manager, owner, or server can't deal with the multitude of personalities that visit an establishment on a daily basis without remaining calm and collected what good does it do anybody. Owners and servers lose repeat business and customers lose what could be a fantastic dining expierence in the future.
Let's be realistic AND objective. I'm sure some of these entries were blown way out of proportion. But a slice of cheesecake or a creme brulee probably cost $.75 or $1.25 if you factor in labor. Average menu cost of those items is 5-6 dollars. Is it going to run your business down the tubes to comp a dessert on occasion? Most likely not. Especially when all that domestic draft beer you sell cost approx. $.25 a serving and you charge $3-$4 dollars for it. That jug wine....$4 a bottle and you charge $5 to $6 a glass and you get 5-6 pours out a bottle. Fountain soda? $.5 a serving and approx. $1.25 on most menus.
Those price mark-ups are standards in this industry for a reason. That reason is to cover any kitchen mistakes or customer issues that arise when warranted.
A little gesture like that goes a long way in building a solid relationship w your customers. More often than not they will feel more comfortable in revisiting your business and having a great meal and paying full price. Everybody wins.
In any business it's ultimately the customers that decide you fate. If it's within your power to make sure people leave satisfied and happy to go home and tell all their friends about what a great expierence they had....make it happen.

Every industry is a "hospitality industry", chief. Unless your hand is forced people tend not to do business with unfriendly peeps.
I'm simply trying to stay objective. Bad service happens, and generously comp'ing part or all of a meal isn't the status quo. It's a judgment call made by the cats in charge. Expecting free food is simply ridiculous.
Judging from people's lack of fortitude in the Enter key area (some of you may have a Return key, no need to be afraid of that one either), we're not dealing with the sharpest tools in the shed here.

First off, I have been coming here for three to four years. Since the change in ownership my visits have decreased from 4 times a week to 1 time a month. The menu looks better but tastes worse. The service is the worst in town. Yet the prices keep rising. The servers that I like keep leaving??? Or fired??
The bottom line is that it is the "HOSPITALITY" industry. Therefore, people are going to want and expect. Do you have to give it to them? No, but should you be respectful....yes. Word of mouth may be the slowest advertising but it is the best.
I've seen the mishaps, yes there are always two sides to the story but a town like Flower Mound does not need the second coming of Avner.
It will be interesting to see what Sonoma Grill turns into since the GM left there.

I would like to begin by stating that I am Albert Abbood's daughter. I am very upset to see that so many people have written comments that are extremely untrue. I know for a fact that my father would never scream at a customer and tell them to leave. He is very curteous when customers have a complaint and I am a witness to that. I work there on the weekends and some evenings during the week. I am aware that problems arise with service and food and I have never seen my father lash out on anyone. Furthermore, why would he do such a thing when he has a reputation at stake. In conclusion, I would just like to ask that people not take the negative comments seriously because they are very false and I am not just saying that because he is my father. Thank you.

Sorry, I was dozing off so quickly that I missed that it was 4 not 3 blue haired complainers wanting more free sodas.

To DC - since all I did was type in the comment box, I am not sure what a "Dense type" is and since I am one of the four grandmothers, I am not sure what basis that is for failure - but I do know that your post serves no good point for or against this restaurant.

With a dense block of text and an opening hook that reads "three grandmothers go to a bar for a monthly bridge game" this post was doomed to fail.

To all the staff posting on this site - these people are not free loaders. I am a local grandmother who went to Z's yesterday with three other grandmothers. We have a monthly bridge game which we play at a restaurant. We used to eat and play at Z's before the change in owners and were always delighted in food, service and attitude. We decided to try it again yesterday. We asked the hostess if we could eat lunch and then stay for another two hours and play bridge. She said that would be fine. We ate our lunch (which by the way was not nearly as good as it was with the previous owner) and then started to play bridge. We usually wait until we are ready to leave to pay the check but the waitress asked us if we would close out since she was going off shortly. We said that would be no problem as long as we could still get refills on our sodas. She assured us that would be fine and brought us all refills before she left. About 30 minutes later one of the ladies who had only water decided she wanted to get a soda and I asked for a refill of my soda at the same time. She brought the two sodas back and said the bill for BOTH sodas was included. I told her that mine was just a refill from my lunch soda and she informed me that it was not their policy to refill drinks after you paid your check. I told her about the discussion with the other waitress and she insisted it did not matter - there would be no refills after the check is paid. She said she would get the owner. Mr Abood "saunters" over to our table and instead of saying "can I help you ladies" he barks out "what's the problem here". I proceeded to explain again that our waitress asked us to do her the favor of paying before we were ready to leave assuring us we could still get our sodas refilled. He belligerently stated that there were NO refills after payment. If I wanted more soda I could just pay for it! Now, people, we are talking about $1.99 here! And besides that, it is almost pure profit for a restaurant since we all know you can but a bottle of soda for that price! At this point, I was not looking to free-load - I was just looking for what should have been a courtesy to a customer. He then informed me that he might have been willing to give me the refill if "I had asked him nicely"! I admit, I lost it with that comment and told him would he like me to tell him what he could do with his refill. At that point, he screams his head off at all of us and demands that we leave his restaurant. I asked him if he realized what he was doing killing four customers like that and he said "what the hell do I care, I haven't seen your face in here before". Well, let me tell you - he never will see it again either. He will also never see the other three ladies, our husbands, children, grandchildren and any and all of our friends who we tell this story to. I am so glad to see the other comments here, because he had me wondering what I had done wrong - obviously this man is a bully and enjoys throwing his weight around in "his restaurant". I hope he enjoys it alot because I can guarantee you he will not last another six months in the Flower Mound, Highland Village area. There are far too many eating establishments here to subject ourselves to crazy belligerent owners. The reason we decided to try Z's again is because a lovely little place right around the corner from his just closed down. We have played there for the past year or so and became good friends with the owner - she would actually greet us by name and bring our sodas to the table without our even having to remind her what we drank! There is justice eventually in this world, Mr. Abood - and I will not shed a tear when I see the closed sign on your door!

Though I'm not taking sides, it is interesting to note that the two negative comments from today both came from the same IP address. The comment from three months ago, efranks, is a different IP address, however, all three have only commented once on this site.

If your food takes forever and comes out cold, why in the world would you think dessert is going to be any different? And why would you pump more money into a place who gave you such poor service?
Doyle's skeptical.
Not to mention, if I sent my entree back and didn't order something else, no way in hell I'm leaving it up to the manager to comp it. If I ordered a beverage other than water, I'll leave the money for it on the table and take my business elsewhere. If I had a salad, leave a few more bucks.
Stop looking for handouts.

I'm sorry, but I see this situation a lot differently than Scott and Teresa. Like Teresa says, we can't know exactly what happened since we weren't there, but if their stories (at least two, possibly three, 3 months apart) are true, "freeloading" is the farthest thing from what they were doing.
One party was treated like scum by their waitress, and then when all the parties had the "audacity" to request food that they sent back (and didn't eat) be taken off their bill, the owner screamed at and threatened them. Even if was just once, that's unacceptable behavior from people in the service industry. Asking for money back is not the issue -- being berated and threatened in a public place is the issue.

It amazes me how people are willing to put up with so much until they find out there's no freeloading to be had. If that's your game, I'm sure restaurant owners are perfectly content with you not coming back.

Thanks for your comments on this restaurant. I called the owner, and it appears that there was some kind of misunderstanding; but obviously, it's difficult to judge unless you were actually at the restaurant.
The thing i do notice about the negative comments posted here is they all come from folks who demanded refunds for food they'd ordered.
I think the better approach when there's a problem is to be pleasantly surprised if and when a restaurant offers a refund for an oversight. And if the owner doesn't offer a refund, don't frequent the place.
But to demand your money back and then go around to websites posting critical comments about the restaurant for not doing so seems to put the poor behavior squarely with the customer and not the restaurant.

I am relieve to read the comments above so I know I am not the only one who had a miserable experience at this place. Our food came late, cold and the orders were all messed up. Our server was completely incapable of paying us any attention and also seemed to be rushing our meal so that he could be cut and sent home. We ordered dessert but when it took nearly 30 minutes to arrive cold, we asked it be returned. The bill came with the dessert still listed. When we complained, the owner, Mr. Abood, screamed at us that it was not his policy to refund food that had already been prepared and he would not remove the item. I complained and was shouted out in front of two of my girlfriends who were eating with me at the time. We all left while he still shouted at us, even though we paid the bill in full. He even used profanity and told us we were banned from his restaurant, as if we would return! I would sooner eat at a McDonald's than to ever visit this bad place or deal with this rude man again!

After our first and only experience at Z's Grill and Tap, I can honestly say that I have never had a more unpleasant experience at any eating establishment in my life. I was there with my daughter, my wife, my sister and my brother-in-law. We intentionally came on a Tuesday night at 4:30 pm to avoid the dinner rush. Although the place was virtually empty, it took nearly 20 minutes for a server to approach us with drink orders. We all ordered soft-drinks, but the server continuously pushed cocktail specials from the bar. My family are not big drinkers... especially when our child is present. But she was relentless in her desire to push higher-priced drinks. When we finally refused for a forth time, she rudely walked away, took nearly 15 minutes to fill five soft-drinks and slammed them on the table so hard my wife's drink splashed up and stained her blouse. Then it was another 15 minutes before she returned to take our dinner order. She first told us that our 11-year-old daughter was "too old" to order from the kid's menu and then proceeded to scribble down our orders without so much as addressing us or even looking us in the eye. After nearly 35 minutes, our food arrived cold and half the orders were incorrect. I waited another 20 minutes before I could find the waitress, who was in the bar talking with another waitress. I asked for the manager and she very rudely told me it would be a while. 15 minutes later, the owner, Al Abood arrived and immediately displayed an attitude towards me and my family. We asked to simply be comped for our meal so we could then eat at a more pleasant establishment. He first refused, even threating to call the Flower Mound police if we did not pay our bill. He was screaming and acting so out of control that my 11-year-old daughter began to cry. I finally told him that we would not pay, and that he could contact the police if he liked but it would not look good for him or his establishment because I would most certainly explain to the police the unbelievably poor service we had been given. He then shouted at all of us to "Get the hell out of my restaurant now!" By this time, the entire dining room was focused on this display. I have never seen a more unprofessional display of management skills in my life, and I have worked Customer Service for nearly 20 years. I would not reccommend this eating establishment to anyone. The service is horrible, the food was inedible and the owner is literally a real-life version of "The Soup Nazi" from "Seinfield." I am surprized he is still in business, since I have been a Flower Mound resident for 14 years and I do not believe our residents would patronize a business that is run so poorly.

This is a good local place to hang out. Young families are welcomed at this restaurant. The 5 cent arcade is a real bonus! There are numerous HD large screen TV's throughout. Adequate separation between bar and restaurant was a nice touch. The food was good and the service was great! Live music on Saturday nights...we've found a new place to go.

My husband, my son (9 years old), two friends and I went to Z Grill for drinks and dinner. We were paying separately. One of the ladies I was with ordered a taco salad. She wanted it with chicken, but accidently ordered it with beef. She does not eat beef. She asked for it to be changed. The waitress told her she could but she would have to pay for both meals according to the owner. She told them never mind she would not eat. When her bill came the salad was on the bill. She asked to speak to the owner. When he came over she told him she did not think she should have to pay for the meal since she did not eat.He became belligerent and told her that if she did not pay he would call the police and have her arrested. We told him that it was ridiculous to expect her to pay for a meal that she did not eat and he asked us if we went into stores and bought things and expected to be able to exchange them if we did not like it.We told him of course since we do it all the time with clothes. At this he started yelling at all of us (in front of my son) and told us we need to pay our bill and get the hell out of his restaurant. He was getting extremely loud and was causing quite a bit of embarrasment to our group since we do business in this town.We told him we did not think this was right and the proper way to do business at which he screamed at the top of his lungs that it was his restaurant and he would do whatever the hell he wanted to do.He finally decided to allow her to only pay for her drink, but all of us would be banned for life from his restaurant.I was confused since my husband and I were paying for our $50 meal.I told him this and he said that I was to get the hell out of his restaurant.I told him we send a lot of people to not only this restaurant but to the other restaurant he owns, Sonoma Grill, and that we would tell them not to.At this he threatened to call the police on me and told me he had a lawyer that he would have come after me.I do not want this restaurant and this man doing this to other people that are simply trying to have a meal with family and friends. He was out of his mind with anger and frightened me and my friends and family.I was grateful that my husband was there to protect me.Of course, my reputation in this town will suffer since I can not explain to people that he was without any warrant attacking me and slandering my name and reputation. This is a local family restaurant in a small town and he should be allowed to do business here.

My kids love this place, for the simple fact that they have 5 cent video games! Nice appetizers, burgers, etc....good place to watch a game and hang out with your friends as well.
