5/5Ziziki's is top on my list!!
– Step into new era of divine cuisine, eclectic décor, and unbelievable scenery at Ziziki’s. Veteran Costa Arabatzis opened Zizki’s in 1994 featuring flavorful Mediterranean Cuisine, with an emphasis on Greek and Italian. Arabatzis showcases a menu with unbelievable appetizers including premium Artichoke Hummus with Pita bread, Calamari –sautéed to order and Drunken Mushrooms. All entrees are prepared daily with freshest ingredients featuring Rack of Lamb, Souvlaki skewers, marinated and grilled lamb, chicken, salmon or veggies and Greek Paella. For the sweet temptation, experience your choice of a decadent Baklava Ice-Cream Cake, a lovely Tiramisu and more. Ziziki's has earned the Wine Spectator's prestigious "Award of Excellence” every year since opening in 1994. The menu also features two amazing specialty drinks including Ziziki’s Sunkiss and Ziziki’s Coffee, a perfect way to wrap up dinner. Ziziki’s décor consists of a metropolis of unique fixtures from all over the world. The neighborhood bistro is finished in faux Italian yellow wine shelving and a cherry wood bar with a mahogany finish. Mary Arabatizis hand selected everything from the table tops, lighting and music, to the design of the eclectic open air patio dining. Ziziki's offers the perfect atmosphere for any occasion!!

3/5We arrive and give the car to the valet outside of the Wine Chateau. At least the transmission is still under warranty.
It's a birthday or something, so we're in a room across from the main restaurant. It seems a little strange, as our group is about half of what you might expect would fill the space. Maybe it's the multicultural thing. I've heard there are some stories around here that suggest race is a bit of an issue in these parts.
So, regardless, for appetizers we get some kind of dried up pitas and a cheese pizza. I'm sure it has some other name, but whatever, like I care anymore. Both come with the "white sauce with green flecks."
Well, the wine list is ok, and the euro dentist isn't afraid to order by the bottle. We enter into some discussion about the Marshall agreement. I am moderately entertained.
The servers come clearly in two tiers: first, the worker bees: they fill the water, take ESL classes from Deal or No Deal and little else. Secondly, the actual server, who bears an almost gothic ecchi look who actually converses with you. She is competant and efficient and probably is looking to move to New York sometime soon. I know a psychiatrist who would LOVE to meet her!
The food arrives! She and I apparently ordered the same dish with minor exceptions - she gets lamb on a skewer on top of a pita and I get sliced lamb on top of a pita. Both are swimming in the "white sauce with green flecks." Mine cost $4 more. I guess that's the going rate for cutting red meat these days. We also both get potatoes and a salad.
That is, of course, if a by a salad, you mean a pile of onions. By this time, I had the "white sauce with green flecks" with onions with the appetizers as well as on my lamb. Additionally, there was a scoop of purple onions beside my pile of lamb that was apparently my salad. Clearly, this was arranged with an ice creme scoop. She got exactly the same pile.
Others got the lamb lasagna, which also came with the onion mound. It was pretty much lasagna of the Mrs. Vanelli level. I mean, I tried it. Nothing disturbing, but, well, I was a little underwhelmed.
At one point, the door outside jams. I suggest we throw a plate through the door, but I am labelled the "reactionary" in the group.
One of the water guys opens it, but it's jammed, so now we have rain in our room. One of the girls in our group is moving to LA, so at least she and a couple of the other ladies are drunk by now. I think this helps with the increasingly unpleasant environment.
In the end, two slices of puny cheese pizza, two glasses of cabernet out of a box, and two lamb plates, one sliced, one not = $86 before tip. Probably not a great place for a first date unless she's a real lush. We move on for dessert.

4/5Ziziki's is a wonderful, cozy and relaxed place. I loved the fact that they had a favorite wine of mine...and by the glass! I love their chicken on skewers and the wonderful house sauce. Friendly service.
A regular place of mine on Travis.
