Was excited to finally try Rise last night. No wait if we sat on the patio - GREAT! Or so we thought. Service was iffy at best, tea wasn't refilled, a second round of bread never came. Rise starter salad was fresh and delicious. Souffles were amazing, unique, perfect; esp. the crabmeat/boursin special.
Then there was the mouse. Or was it a rat? Not joking. Granted, we were on the patio. And there was a woodpile. But our waiter didn't give two sh*ts that the thing was running around our table, and it took us flagging down a manager to get a check (and a free chocolate souffle) and get out. IJS.
The bathrooms are neat.

Fantastic wine list compliments the souffles and French countryside decor. They have service from lunch thru dinner so you can enjoy a late lunch and linger over dessert souffles and have another bottle of wine. This great Inwood Village location is alittle posh but European casual so maturity is okay and so is eye candy.

On the basis of the bleu cheese teaser posted above, I ate here for lunch today. Naturally, I ordered the Blue D'Auvergne to try it out. Delicious.
Also, the venue lived up to my best expectations for a tony French joint by taking one look at my scruffy clothing (non-designer jeans and touristy NYPD t-shirt) and treating me like the second- or third-class citizen I truly am, positioning me cleverly in a far-removed corner at the French bistro equivalent of a counter. Bravo - if I were running this place I wouldn't have treated me any differently.
Aside from the seating arrangement, the service was really quite good and the waiter solicitous without being even remotely supercilious. Since the waiter forgot to enter our order for the dessert apple tart before bringing us the check (oops!) - and the tart was already in the oven (wow, that sounds so open to employment as double entendre that I'm sad to say I mean it literally) - the chef ended up handing it over to us - no charge - to take out.
Cool decor, too - complete with a faux birch forest interior and a chandelier patched together from wine bottles. (Empty ones, thankfully.)

I've never craved for a savory Souffle - until now. If you like blue cheese, the Blue D'Auvergne is fantastic. The Souffles are perfectly cooked and the dish keeps it hot the whole time you are eating.
Tried the warm apple tart for dessert which was far better than I expected. Apples and a light custard are layered over a flaky croissant pastry and then drizzled in caramel.
Coffee is served in a French press which is a nice touch.
