Besides great fried and grilled seafood, this place gets my vote for best Mexican cocktail outside of Mexico!

If there is better fried seafood 300 miles from salt water, I've yet to find it. Consistently the best fried shrimp I've ever had. Last time we went (March 08) the fried oysters were so big a whole one was too much for a single mouthful! HL&S put the Mexican seafood cocktail on the map in Dallas.

Friendly staff. Always fresh! Never any taste or smell of old deep fry oil. The fries could be better and tables could be bused a little quicker. Otherwise, my favourite roadside style fish diner...

In my opinion, the best fried seafood in Dallas. I don't know how they do it, but the fried food is never greasy. They also use a cornmeal-based batter that gives the fish great flavor and texture. It also prevents you from getting a piece of fish that is 80% batter. The best fried item? Get the whole fried catfish. Amazing.
The grilled items are just as good so if you want to eat healthy, you can. Shrimp Kabobs are amazing. The boil and eat shrimp/crab combo is also good.
Be sure to load up on cocktail sauce. Theirs actually has enough horseradish to give it a punch.
Dessert is limited to pies, but they taste fresh.
Parking can be hard during peak hours. If you're in a hurry, order your food to go.

Yes, a majority of the menu is fried. Yes, you generally serve yourself, although after visiting a few times, you might find your table bussed for you.
We arrive, staff friendly. Prices reasonable. Pounds of shrimp and oysters meet their respective fates. All is to be expected.
Something with H, L + S somehow works. Aw Shucks needs to visit and figure out what it is.

The hushpuppies are divine, when I pick up food at lunch, my whole office comes around to see what smells so good. And it tastes that good. Two and three piece meals with fries and hushpuppies. Okra and hot wings are spicy/tantalizing, also. The restaurant interior is nice but always crowded (thats a sign). They have a small seating section outside. A great place.
