Laurie Anderson Laurie Anderson is indescribably delicious. She's hitting McFarlin tonight with her new show, Homeland, and you can bet it will contain intellectual stimulation and pure unadulterated weirdness in equal measure. An album will follow the Homeland tour in 2009. More info

Vern's is an absolute treasure. The pepper steak and hot water cornbread are amazing.
The folks who run Vern's are some of the nicest, most spiritual people you will ever meet in your life.
The only missing from the menu is Dr. Pepper - so if you're addicted like I am, either bring your own and get yourself a big glass of sweet tea!

I've been eating here for almost 25 years, and Vern (and her girls) know what they are doing! From chitlins to short ribs swimmin' in 40wt brown gravy, her fresh greens and clottery cloggin' mac&cheese, soul food doesn't get much better than this. Btw, if you go, and you really should at least once, don't go without splitting a serving of her warm banana pudding. GOODNESS. That 1/2 a serving will make you feel as if you had some measure of self control, small that it is! Like the old Dallas by way of Frisco Tx bluesman Zuzu Bollin used to say, <b>"It may not be good for me, but it sure is good to me."</b>
I like the place so much I took it upon myself to make a photo tribute page in homage, as it were. Here's a link to it...if you're interested in seeing some pics of the food, go here.
