Mountain lions in Sachse?

If this big cat story detailing sightings of a "mountain lion" in Sachse bears any validity, then it seems that the supposedly shy and retiring beasts are moving ever closer to North Texas population centers.

Throughout the linked article the backyard beasties are referred to as "big cats," bringing to mind a Big Gulp, or perhaps a house pet gone Super-Size. In any case, whether mountain lion or bobcat or something else entirely (Escaped zoo animal? Cryptozoological rarity? Strange Creature from Time and Space?), the local resident quoted in the article thinks it's "kind of neat" to see the titanic tabbies romping around on her property, and - get this - "the kids enjoy watching them, too."

Apparently we forget we live in the wild west.

I just built a home off 380 north of Little Elm, and our community has spotted said mountain lion 3 times. And I also heard a radio report of some Collin County folks seeing some as well. We also have deer, armadillos, and coyotes.

I have also spotted cougars in North Dallas many times, wearing gold lamee dresses at various watering holes. But I think those are a different species :)

I've seen Bobcats in Grand Prairie... Right next to Riverside Golf Course off 360 and Post and Paddock... Used to live right by the lake there. What's the big deal? They are running out of "nature" due to our encroachment on their habitat... what'd you expect? :o) The bobcats in GP are very big as well, (and agressive: think small pets disappearing) the one that "lived" near my apartment was about 50-60 lbs.

I agree with Cantonson: North Texas is prime wild-animal habitat, and if we encroach any furthur, there will be more sightings and confrontations (just ask the folks who regularly see coyotes in Richardson). By the way, mountain lions are also known as cougars or pumas and usually weigh between 120 and 150 pounds, while adult bobcats clock in at about 20 pounds. Maybe Cantonson saw a young cougar instead.

Nah, just can't guess weight very well... That's why I quit the carnival. :-) It was most definitely a bobcat.

This is actually the house next to mine, you can see our house in the video the brick one, anyway it is funny to me how they left out that the bobcats and coyotes and even the mountain lion, have not bothered anyone. Yes we do have some missing cats but no telling what got those and they are not lurking in the field waiting like they portray and they are nice to have around.
