Interview with Jason Folks, Director of 1984
There seems to be a nice trend happening in the theater community. Last week, Risk Theatre Initiative presented the world premiere adaptation from Kurt Vonnegut's classic novel, Slaughterhouse 5. This week, Frisco Community Theatre will be presenting the regional premiere of George Orwell's 1984. Director Jason Folks got a few minutes to talk about his career, the theater company, and the show.
1984
- When: Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, 8 p.m.
- Where: Cox Building Playhouse, 1517 Avenue H, Plano
- Cost: $10 - $15
- Age limit: 12+
We start off by talking about his start in theater and what got him involved with Frisco Community Theatre. Since, the theater company had to postpone its season due to the lack of a facility, I ask him about the challenges FCT has faced over the last year and about the status and progress of the theater company.
He talks about why George Orwell's 1984 was chosen and what attracted him to it. I ask him about the stage adaptation and how it will relate to the modern-day audience. We end by talking about what he ultimately wants the audience to walk away with.
1984 runs from February 14 - 24 at the Cox Building Playhouse, which is not in Frisco. Tickets can be purchased online.
