IRVING UPDATED: Terms of the deal are now confirmed: 6 years, $43 million, including $15 million in guaranteed money and a $13 million signing bonus.
The Dallas Cowboys announced today that they have re-signed left tackle Flozell Adams Thursday. Although terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, the team did confirm that it was a long-term deal that should keep Adams in a Cowboys jersey for the rest of his career.
Adams, who had just finished the terms of a five-year, $25 million deal, protected quarterback Tony Romo's blindside all season long, and earned a spot in the Pro Bowl because of it. Adams was drafted by the Cowboys as a second-round pick in 1998. He and linebacker Greg Ellis are the team’s longest-tenured players.
Adams, who will turn 33 this summer, made the Pro Bowl in four of the past five seasons, missing only in 2005 when a knee injury cost him 10 games. Those are the only games he’s missed in his 10-year career.
Cowboys fans have always had a love-hate relationship with the tackle, who collects accolades from around the league for his stellar play, but also seems to have a tendency to cause false starts at inopportune times in the game. Adams was also manhandled in the Cowboys' last playoff loss to the Giants, the eventual Super Bowl winners.
