Interview with Artie Olaisen, Director of The Giver

When I saw that a Dallas Children's Theater was putting on the sci-fi fantasy classic The Giver, a book I remember so clearly reading, I knew I had to feature the director, Artie Olaisen.

We start off by talking about his career, how he came to Dallas and how he got involved with Dallas Children's Theater. Since he has been part of the company for a long time, he talks about the necessity DCT in Dallas and how it has grown and struggled over the years.

I ask about The Giver, how it got chosen to be in the season and what attracted him to it. He talks about the mature themes of the book and how he feels it can relate to a younger audience. I then ask if adults will be able to enjoy themselves and relate to the story.

He talks about the technical aspects of the show and how it something different for Dallas Children's Theater. We end by talking about what he ultimately wants the audience to walk away with after seeing the show.
