Detroit Tigers 19, Texas Rangers 6

The Texas Rangers keep finding new and innovative ways to lose, tossing their long-suffering fans a 19-6 gem in Detroit for their sixth straight loss. Texas is now 7-14, one game worse than the formerly-worst-in-the-AL Tigers at 8-13.

Down 6-7 heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Rangers looked to be playing a competitive road game. But any hopes of a close Rangers win were dashed by an eleven-run sixth inning for the Tigers, putting the game at 18-6 and out of range for the young squad.

The less said about the Rangers pitching, the better: starter Luis Mendoza was once again terrible, giving up five runs --two of them earned-- in less than two innings of work. The next three relievers did not fare much better, giving up 14 runs over the next four-plus innings. C.J. Wilson pitched a perfect ninth, the only Rangers pitcher to avoid giving up a run.

Texas wasted a good start against former Ranger Kenny Rogers, scoring 6 runs on the cagey veteran in just four innings. Ian Kinsler did most of the damage, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Michael Young went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI, while catcher Gerald Laird went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
