Children's Medical Center of Dallas

Children's Medical Center of Dallas is one of 12 children's trauma centers around the country taking part in the Cool Kids Trial. The trial is testing the effects of hypothermia therapy on patients, which is believed to prevent additional injury to the brain, thus speeding up recovery.

When Morgan Harris, 10, fell from a tree and injured his brain, doctors at Children's decided to enter him as their first patient in the trial. For 48 hours, Morgan was sedated and his body temperature was kept between 90 and 92 degrees Fahrenheit, while he was treated for his skull fracture and broken arm. After being gradually brought back to standard body temperature, he was kept in the hospital for an additional two weeks. While he still has some difficulties similar to any other person suffering from a brain trauma, early in the healing process, Morgan appears to be doing very well.

The Magnetic Fields Quartet led by songwriter Stephen Merritt is resolutely "indie" so how come their music has been used in a Volvo commercial and appeared in the film Lemony Snicket? More info
