Summer wouldn't be summer without baseball. Throw in a mariachi band and you’ve got Latino Night at Grand Prairie’s QuikTrip Ballpark on Monday, July 14, 2008 to watch the Grand Prairie AirHogs play the Shreveport Sports Baseball Club.
The young Texas team, which debuted in May, is named the AirHogs (submitted by a Grand Prairie resident in a ball club-sponsored contest last year) because the name reflects the stadium’s aviation-inspired architecture, not to mention the local aeronautics industry.
For those of us who aren't familiar with the term, airhogs is a slang term that military pilots use to refer to themselves.
According to Mark Schuster, managing partner of Ventura Sports Group, "The team name was chosen based on three criteria: the name had to be unique to professional sports names, aviation-themed and a name and logo that kids will embrace."
The hope is that everyone will embrace this hometown team.
Sam Ward, box office manager of the team, tells Latina Lista that in celebration of Latino Night, discounted tickets will be available for those who purchase advanced tickets. Ticket prices range from $2 for General Admission to $4 for Box Seats. The new Dallas Cowboy stadium can't beat those prices!
And since this is Texas and it is summer, the stadium will also be having some drink specials that night too.
