Participants in the North American Solar Car Challenge left Plano on Sunday headed for Calgary, Canada.
The participants were students from colleges across the U.S. and Canada, traveling in cars powered by the sun.
Sunday morning was kindof cloudy, so the cars were expected to reach speeds of only 35 mph; but when it's sunny, they can go 70-75 miles per hour, although over the course of the 2,400-mile trip, the students travel at 60-65 mph.

I hope someone remembered to tell them that sunlight in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta is taxed, and it varies (by province) between CDN$4.20 and CDN$5.75 per 10kW (or portion thereof).
So, they better bring their MasterCards and remember not to bypass the provincial truck stop measurement booths! Big fines if they don't stop in.

Plus, they tax snowfall in the winter too, love Bush, want to become the 51st state, and have plans to sell all their water to America.
Next questions, please... ;-)

Um, the picture you have is of the GM Sunraycer from the 1987 World Solar Challenge held in Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunraycer). It's true that Sunraycer set a then world record of 75MPH on a closed track, but it's hardly accurate to say that it cruised at that speed on "sunny days."
