DALLAS St. Alcuin Montessori School announced that Dallas business leaders, Sam and Charles Wyly and other members of the Wyly family have made gifts totaling $2.5 million to the school. St. Alcuin is an independent, non- denominational day school founded in 1964 and is now one of the largest Montessori Schools in North America.
This unrestricted gift will go towards the school's Capital Campaign that is currently underway. The school was founded in 1964, and Rosemary and Sam Wyly's son, Evan enrolled in 1966.
"My heart is bursting with gratitude for this most generous gift," said Shaun Underhill, St. Alcuin's Head of School. "From our very beginning, the Wylys have been part of the foundation of St. Alcuin; we have educated 25 Wyly children and grandchildren. At different times over the years, Charles, Evan and Laurie have served on the Board, while Lisa and John Graham are currently leading committees for our Annual Auction. This gift will now allow us to make definite plans for the expansion of our campus."
St. Alcuin has purchased land adjacent to the school in recent years and has plans to expand the campus and its facilities. The Capital Campaign will raise funds to implement a master plan that includes a new middle school, gymnasium and athletic field, as well as other campus renovations.
St. Alcuin serves a diverse community of over 500 students, toddlers through eighth graders. The school is a model for toddler, primary, and elementary Montessori programs.
