Until recently, Jim Baldwin has worked behind the scenes. From his award-winning Motel 6 commercials with Tom Bodett, and his sun-baked beach spots for Corona beer, to his directorial debut honored by Wim Wenders and Dennis Hopper, Jim’s creative work has become a part of the American cultural landscape. With his first solo music effort, Somebody's Nobody, he turns his talents to singing and songwriting.
Baldwin grew up in El Paso, where he said the scene “is a kind of musical menudo where country, Tejano, rock, metal and classical are all thrown together. I’d have to say that my biggest influences are Johnny Cash, R.E.M. and the mariachis that perform in the mercados of Juarez.”
He taught himself guitar and was prodded to write songs by musician friends Doug and Jill Bryan of Dallas band Big Boss Groove. Baldwin drew from his years as a visual artist to create stories to music. Populated by jilted lovers, fallen angels and midnight blue skies, his songs are cinematic novellas set to soundtracks.
Somebody's Nobody was produced by Dallas musician/composer/producer Clay Pendergrass.
Jim is a B. W. Stevenson Singer/Songwriter Competition Semi-Finalist.
