Does anyone have any recommendations for restaurant week dining? I've found that it's not really a "bargain" when the portion sizes are reduced to the size of an appetizer, and you find yourself hungry afterwards. We tried Roy's last year, and were pleasantly surprised with the selection and portions. Anyone else have ideas?

I've never tried it but it seems like the restaurants probably wouldn't like anybody doing that (especially solo) so I won't do it.

James Scott, says:

If they didn't like doing it, they wouldn't participate. Money goes to a good cause, and gets people in the door that may have otherwise not come in to try them out.

Teresa Gubbins, says:

restaurants don't always participate in events like this because they "like" them. there's a tremendous amount of pressure, especially among the higher-tier places, to contribute their time, money, and food to charity events.

as for this event, if you talk to anyone who works at a restaurant, you'll get an earful about how horrendous this event can be. it draws a strata of one-time customers who, for the most part, grouse about things like not getting enough food, being treated badly by the waiters, and so on. the restaurant's "regulars" tend to avoid eating out during this time.

Yea I agree more with Teresa than James. Sure the owners or whoever likes the idea and wants to "do good", but the waiters, managers, cooks, etc probably don't give a darn about a good cause and dislike making anything less than expense account money. I get "the look" just going into a place by myself on a normal week, I bet if I had restaurant week reservations it would be hopeless.
