Lancaster annexation opponents start fighting
I know this article is a few months old, but I felt compelled to comment.
The opponents of annexation have every right to step up and let their voices be heard, but the citizens of Lancaster (myself included) do as well. The city is well within its rights to annex this land and they are only doing what is being done in Midlothian, Frisco, Forney, Red Oak, and just about any other fast growing city in the Metroplex with a sizable Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ).
When you live in an unincorporated area surrounded by incorporated communities, there is always the risk of eventual annexation. I believe that this process will continue to move forward even despite some opposition.
For those people living within the ETJ who, by the way, are already receiving fire and ambulance protection from the city to essentially bash the city that is protecting them sets my blood to boiling. That area has been part of the school district for many years as well, so I don't understand how this can be a valid argument against annexation into the city. Under the annexation proposal, those with land uses that don't conform to city ordinances will have their properties grandfathered in so they can use them as before.

Lancaster ISD wants public in on superintendent search
I already filled out my form online and sent it. This is our opportunity to finally get a competent and effective leader in Lancaster ISD. I hope many people will participate in this process. Our teachers, students, and community deserve it!

Audit uncovers problems with Lancaster ISD finances
Another negative LISD school board-related story that takes precedent over anything positive going on at the individual campuses in the district. Thats all we hear about. Our schools, students, and teachers are being unfairly judged mainly due to the actions of the school board (although many of the problematic trustees either quit or lost re-election bids) and I am sick of it!
P.S.: For those Lancaster residents living in Board Districts 1, 2, and 7, DON'T forget to vote in the May 9th election!!!

Former Lancaster mayoral candidate back in jail, now for Dallas rental scams
There's a reason he finished a distant third in last year's mayoral election. I attended a mayoral candidates forum last year and he seemed to be more interested in making a profit than actually gaining office. There was also the issue of him using several different addresses in and outside of Lancaster as his official "place of residence." We knew that putting a man of such flawed character in the city's highest office would be a mistake. Lancaster really dodged a bullet on this one!

Lancaster teens throw a temper tantrum when theater won't let them in
It is so annoying to see people generalize an entire city based on one event. The constant bashing of the city by people who have never lived here or those who moved away needs to stop!
Lancaster is Lancaster, not Pleasant Grove, Oak Cliff, or any other place. It is isn't perfect but no place is. There majority of its residents are hard working people who are simply living their lives. The nice neighborhoods outnumber those that aren't. Despite recent demographic changes, the city is mostly middle-class, not low-income people receiving government assistance. This is NOT a ghetto.
It is so sad to see how this type of ignorance is trumping the truth about Lancaster.

Park brings nature, wildlife to Lancaster
This park is a great asset for our city. I'll definitely have to check it out for myself very soon.

Dallas County Commissioners make smart decision regarding inland port
In my opinion, the inland port has much better prospects than the failed super collider did. Construction projects are underway and companies are buying up land with the intention to build.
The inland port has land in four cities (Dallas, Lancaster, Wilmer, and Hutchins) as well as in portions of unincorporated Dallas County. I don't think we need another layer of bureaucracy holding up process.

Lancaster ISD superintendent's performance to be evaluated
As a Lancaster resident and the brother of a LHS student, I am frustrated by the whole situation. Over the past few months, you could tell that nothing more than a spark was needed to set off yet another firestorm in the district. Well, that spark has been ignited and the fire is out of control! I don't belong to a particular "camp" (pro-superintendent, anti-superintendent, pro-board, etc.) or support a particular individual. I support the students of Lancaster ISD. In a way, I am glad that all of this is happening now rather than six months or a year later. The sooner that the various issues are dealt with, the sooner that the district can move forward.
I have been a long time visitor to this site because of its coverage of LISD and Lancaster news. My respect for the site has grown tremendously with the coverage of this story because the reader commentary has been much more civil than that of the Dallas Morning News (DMN), which is filled with vile and narrow-minded comments on just about every article that pertains to the city of Lancaster and its school district. Here, opinions are - for the most part - thoughtfully discussed without degenerating into name-calling and personal attacks. On the DMN site, I have read messages labeling all LISD students as "ignorant" and "looking for nothing but a handout" as well as describing the entire city of Lancaster a "cesspool", "dump", and a "ghetto". I don't even want to go into the ones that border on outright racism. Usually, things like that don't get to me, but some of the lies and generalizations were so outrageous that even a person open to hearing all points of view would be offended. I would ask Lancaster residents to take a look at the DMN articles on the district's budget issues that have been published in the last week or so to see exactly what I am talking about. The Lancaster that some of them are describing is NOT the Lancaster that I call home.

Los Cabos Mexican Grill & Cantina opened this week in Addison
Building looks pretty nice from the outside, but they don't seem proactive as they never replied to my email asking about Happy Hour!
