Here we go again: Dallas considering renaming Young Street for Cesar Chavez

As I have said before, why not Elm or Live Oak? Its not like the trees will rise up against us like on The Happening.

Also, the cost must be covered by private donations or wait for a new street to be built. We cannot waste taxpayer money renaming.

Parking near Lower Greenville in Dallas about to get worse

I have been very critical of Avi lately, its more about his tactics than his goal, however, there are no simple answers to "fix" lower greenville. We need to balance the problems with the good things. Should Lower Greenville be like the West Village? Of course not. Should some of the crooked business be forced to clean up? Of course.

Are RPO zones the answer? I am not sure. I think that it just puts more money into the hands of the valets and pushes parking farther into the neighborhood. We need to focus on the actual problems, rather than whether or not the trouble makers can park.

Repeat violations are the problem, not the one offs. One day of music at Good Records is not the same as a murder at Sekret Lounge. I love the area as a resident and as a patron. The city and its representatives need to start a proactive campaign which partners with the businesses to fix the problems and leave the fun.

Cycling tickets on the rise at White Rock Lake

Should we make out the $150 checks to the city or directly to the convention center hotel?

The only reason that this law was put on the books, was to give the cops a reason to stop the drug couriers who were riding bikes to make their deliveries. I guess all of the real crimes have been solved. My thought is that the cops are being forced to work on the KT to protect law abiding citizens from the scum of this town and are looking for ways to offset the cost of being down there.

I think that I will start riding my bike in Fort Worth on the Trinity Trails. That city made that park real nice - even without a toll road.

If you did receive one of his flyers, you may file a complaint at:

This form includes both mail and postage fraud.

Don't forget that Avi was providing his "production assistance" to that guy for his video evidence of Lee Harvey's.

Anyone else get a flyer from Avi in their mailbox yesterday? Since this flyer (which included a solitation for money) was unstamped, it is a violation of Section 508.3.1.3 of the Domestric Mail Manual. This section states in part:

"No part of a mail receptacle may be used to deliver any matter not bearing postage, including items or matter placed upon, supported by, attached to, hung from, or inserted into a mail receptacle. Any mailable matter not bearing postage and found as described above is subject to the same postage as would be paid if it were carried by mail."

Why should people obey rules (whether they me local, state or federal) if he will not? It reminds me of the guy a few years ago that moved next to Lee Harvey's and started complaining, yet allowed his dog to dump on peoples lawns.

So segregation is OK when its voluntary? Basically the civil rights movement would not have happened if the powers that be did a better job in marketing segregation. Make the oppressed think it was their idea.

All I am saying is that it is a slippery slope.

North Texas drought conditions lead to water conservation ad campaign

Actually Pavel, it has little to due with water levels, it relates to the pumping capacity of the water department. I recall several years ago, DWU charging all customers a small fee each month to replace the system, but had to refund it a year or so later when they did not use the money. The current year drought is being blamed rather than the aging infrastructure of the city.

According to NBC/D Magazine it passed. However, I took a second look Scott and it looks like it might be only through the Senate. Here is the citation from NBC.

With the new checkpoint which passed the Texas House yesterday, I am glad to have bars within walking distance from my house.

Do the bars need to get better? Yes, but I cannot help and think that Avi's actions are driving away the customers of some of the good bars.

Nothing like and old man with a camera taking pictures of people going to the bathroom to run off customers. It disgusts me to thing anyone is happy to see businesses close. I know that parking is a problem, hey Avi, why don't we turn the old Whole Foods into a city run parking garage?

P.S. If we can prove that any of the people that Avi took pictures of going to the bathroom were minors, can't he be charged as a sex offender?

Texas senate gives preliminary approval to sobriety checkpoints bill

The argument that if a poor person's inspection or registration expires between paychecks is a weak one. Since the Texas Payday Act requires hourly employees to be paid at least 2 times a month, this in between period is 1 to 14 days. Lets say an average of 7 days.

If a cop writes you a ticket for a one week expired tag, then barring the possibility you were pulled over by Officer Powell, you were probably exhibiting an attitude problem. Also, state law allows for a maximum administration fee of about $10-$15 to dimiss that ticket if you get your car registered or inspected before the court date.

I agree with the other problems with the checkpoints, but I will not stand by when people play the minority/low income card to justify a stance. I have commented several times on this site against using that argument for justifying driving without insurance. It is the cost of owning a car.

New SMU fountain victim of bubble prank

Rachel, I think that 2 points should be awarded due the extreme cost which was absorbed by the SMU students. Do you know how much overtime we must pay our house staff to drive to Fort Worth and perform the prank? Plus they always want mileage and a meal allowance.

UPDATEDx2: Man's mother-in-law dies while Dallas officer detains him for running red light

Powerpedaler - The Dallas-Plano city limits is George Bush. The car exited the toll road at Preston and then headed north on Preston to the Hospital. He apparently was within his jurisdiction but pursued the car outside the city limits. I am not sure what the laws are with respect to this.

The ironic part is, this is a prank that is usually performed by a schools athletic rivals.

Kinda narrows down the list of suspects.

Dallas ISD accepting recommendations for naming of facilities

I course I will throw out Avi Adelman Elementary. But remember kids:

    1. You will be under constant video surveilance.
    2. There are no bathrooms.
    3. No running or smiling.
    4. If you have not purchased a hang tag, your bike will be towed.
    5. All children of certain ethnic groups must obtain a "gangbanger" ID badge.

Chris, I do like your hybrid name options, there I propose Avi Adelman-Sekret Lounge Elememtary.

Pegasus News content partner interview: Barking Dogs

I maybe jumping the gun a little on this, but cbs11tv.com has an article regarding the couple on Vanderbilt who were arrested trying to get out of the neighborhood. The purpose of this post is a pre-emptive strike before Avi starts in making this couple his martyrs in his crusade about ending the St. Patrick's party.

Let me be clear (only taking the side the article is giving) that the couple appear to be improperly treated. However, I know that Avi will use it as his battle cry on why the neighborhood is being overrun on this incident is a result of the collateral damage from that war.

If the article is true, then dissolving the party makes about as much sense as dissolving the police department. The actions of a few cannot be used to change everything. The result of this incident does require some additional procedures and communication to the officers. In any event their will be successes and failures. I truly believe the successes outweighted the failures.

I noticed the cop car was still there this morning. So much for the cost to the city for the party. I had a little trash on my front yard. A beer can, a bottle, a beenie and a cd. I was not a big deal to pick them up since I was already cleaning up my yard (i.e. normal home maintenance and upkeep.)

I propose we start an annual fund to send Avi away for the weekend. Nothing fancy like the Bahamas or anything. I was thinking about Austin or San Antonio, however he might try to ruin SBSW or the Riverwalk. Anyone have any ideas for weekend idea for Avi where he will not ruin other peoples fun.

DMN picks up on St. Patrick's Day "Avi vs. Greenville Ave. merchants" controversy

Has anyone else noticed the police car parked outside Avi's all weekend? It was still there this morning. Did the city park it there to discourage people taking action against him? Kinda strange for a person who complains about the cost by the city to benefit a select few to receive personalized city service.

DMN picks up on St. Patrick's Day "Avi vs. Greenville Ave. merchants" controversy

Does anyone find it strange that Avi has not been joining in on this debate?

If Avi will conceed that he moved in the neighborhood knowing full well about the St. Patrick's party I will conceed that I moved into the neighborhood knowing full well about him.

The problem is, sometimes he makes a good point. He was the first to break that Lone Star towing was a bunch of crooks. He did so months before the Texas/OU towing incident. He has made a stand against the taggers. Albeight a very racist one as labeling all Greenville patrons as gangbangers. I agree that the bars need to be more compliant with all the laws, but in the case of the St. Patrick's day party, they are in compliance with the contract between them and the city.

He is consumed with this "conspiracy" between the bars and the neighborhood association. He has lost sight of working with the establishments as part of his war against them and the other neighborhood associations.

I have called on several other houses in the neighborhood to no avail. I have not called on Avi's since I do not see it from my house. I feel bad for calling him out like this, but my point is he would have a lot more cred in his arguement if his house wasn't decorated by the Munsters. Logic would still prevail though, since the bars and the party were already there.

DMN picks up on St. Patrick's Day "Avi vs. Greenville Ave. merchants" controversy

I have lived in the area for several years. Before that I attended SMU. Kinda knew what I was getting into when I moved here. I used to live on Marquita and Greenville (i.e. ground zero) I wasn't 100% percent happy with the crowds, so I bought a house a few blocks east. I did so because I had a problem not because it was wrong. My tastes changed, so I made a change.

I will tell you one thing. After the 2007 party just as I was sending my sons out to pick the trash up off our lawn on Marquita, a crew was coming by to pick up the trash. I gained a lot of respect for the organizers.

I mostly agree with Avi on the issues 364 days a year, sometimes in the case of last year 365. The bars need to be compliant with the ordinances set forth. I disagree with Avi when it comes to St. Patricks day. The city and the bar owners set up a contract and they follow it. I even have a party in front of my house. I set up trash cans by my sidewalk and people us them. They are respectful when the park in front of my house (However due to the new maps they cannot this year only on my side street as I am a corner lot.)

A one day party is the least of the worries I have in my area. The bigger blight is the businesses and residences that fall short of the established city codes. The reason that people take a leak on Avi's lawn is that they think his house is vacant. Many of the residences in the area apppear to be below human habitation standards. People don't take a leak on mine. When you respect your own property others will respect yours.
