This is one of the most authentic and inventive Japanese restaurants east of Los Angeles. No other matches it in Dallas. This is country style/old school real Japanese with very innovative touches. Pristine ingredients, expertly sliced and or cooked. Meticulous chefs work their butts off behind the very open kitchen. Service is welcoming and efficient. Don't go there to get the pedestrian american-ized stuff like California rolls,Philadelphia rolls or Cajun Rolls.

Has moments of greatness and moments of horribleness. Service is the main problem;totally clueless and not really interested in fixing it. The food is well researched for the most part. Wish they had more South American items(ceviches, better chorizo, cuban stuff)and less TexMex. Great drinks except red wines are served at hot kitchen temperature. Affordable though. Killer dessert.

The most consistent restaurant in Dallas. All scratch/fresh ingredients. Well researched recipes. Precision in service and not too expensive. It is also immaculate, even the garbage doesn't stink. Great bar/patio scene(Park Cities only). Rivals the "hot hot" new restaurants in Dallas.

i hear what your saying, but we didnt see that note on the menu. Also, it was more of the rudeness of the staff that really got us so angered. I am sure the food is great, but with all of the other options here in town that are the same price or less, same quality & I get treated properly, it leaves me not ever wanting to go there again. The situation was totally mishandled.

Rapidly going downhill. Started out with innovative items. Over the years the menu and wine list have been dumbed down for shallow Dallas tastes to steakhouse fare which this city has a plethora of. 1980's Wedge salad, goopy amateur/Junior League Cookbook crab dip, pedestrian caesar, ubiquitous tomato/mozzarella,fried calamari(Chili's has it now) and grilled expensive meat make Hibiscus a snorer now. The California trophy wine list at 4 times markup is shameful. How about some more international wines? Or maybe some value wines so that the average wine drinker/diner can buy 2 bottles instead of choking on 1 overpriced/overbearing fruit or oak bomb from Napa? On the positive, the service is always good.

Interesting place, I wish they had more Argentine items. The chorizo, salamis and chimichurri are great.

Good luck getting seating w/out waiting(uncomfortably)1 hour for a table. SAlads are really the standouts here. The pizza is decent, small, short on toppings and very expensive. Some the cutesy menu lingo bugs me-"heavy handed blend of cheeses","serious caesar dressing", "Paula's Mozz" etc. Its nice that they do use some locally produced ingredients. Wines are dull and too Californian.

I do understand the lack of comforts. The ribs and onion rings are really the only reason to go there. I do like how they chargrill the already smoked ribs. Counter ladies are really nice.

Real NY deli grub. Takes me back home! Ed is focused on simple, quality ingredients & recipes. He's keeping it real. Has own in house scratch bakery that rivals any of the real bakeries in Dallas. He imports food items that either aren't available here or aren't up to snuff.

Al is a super host. The bar is fun and the dining room raucous. Steaks are nicely done to whatever temp you want. Order Al's Salad, it is superb. The sides are the only downfall. They're bland and tired.
