Dallas police step up "quality of life" enforcement in new year

    What a maudlin eagle.

Planned Parenthood of North Texas opens 29th clinic in McKinney with express services

From the Pegasus weekly email: "Also coming soon in Collin County ... a new Planned Parenthood (so you know where Pegasus staffers will be cruisin' this weekend)."

Don't know why you all would want to do that. But while you're there why don't you poll the customers and ask them what kind of parenthood they were planning this visit? Or maybe we could just recognize that PP's name is an anachronism from days gone by, and that today it's just another mass-market profit-making business -- focused on the lower end of the economic demographic, sort of like payday lenders.

Movie review: Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

The review wrote: "Enter the myopia which allows the filmmakers to overlook the fact that religion-based movements and conflicts have led to wholesale slaughter on a global scale since the dawn of humanity."

That must be some sort of a sliding global scale, what with all that terra incognita millenia ago. Maybe it started out retail.

Dallas-based poop scooper Pet Butler achieves 100th franchise milestone

Do they offer internships? Like the one Bobby Hill got.

Hate crimes on the rise throughout North Texas

The author cites two cases, one of which does not involve Latinos. Neither does she say whether the Latinos she writes about are immigrants. It is pretty tenuous reasoning to claim this single case -- unacceptable as it is per se -- is related in a cause-and-effect manner to the legislative actions of two local governments that were seeking to respond to their constituents' legitimate immigration concerns.

    Movie review: The Golden Compass

Thomas Aquinas used to present his opponents' arguments better than they could themselves. Then he would address their points, one by one. Today, reviewers seem content just to express their feelings "as film watcher[s]" -- or, like the linked Houston Chronicle piece, the feelings of random men and women on the street -- so it is little wonder that they "can't see what all the fuss is about."

Warren Buffett buys $2 billion in TXU junk bonds

First time I've seen the adjective "infamous" used in the Three Amigos sense in writing. Very droll.

University of Dallas to host panel on immigration

Let me guess who the ones "who believe in doing the 'Will of the Divine Spirit'" might be. Are they the men who leave their families behind and after a few years, forget about them, stop sending them money, and find new wives among U.S. citizen women?
