  This is an excellently written article that is culturally inspiring. I plan on visiting the exhibit. It sounds as though Lovell has made excellent use of her carbon footprint. Have we become so critical in our cutlure that we can no longer admire those who have made their dreams a priority?

  An 8-track enthusiast that I met online some years ago built a “CD to 8-Track” converter kit, so that I could listen to compact disks in my vintage Camaro. It utilized an 8-track cassette with a cable that plugged into a personal CD player. Once inserted into the 8-Track player, one would simply play the CD through the personal CD Player connected to the device through the earphone jack. It worked pretty well, actually.

  I had an 8-Track player in my 1980 Camaro, complete with the original 8-Track GM Sampler that came with the car when it was first sold. I'm sure that the kid I sold the car to ripped it out and put in some new CD/MP3 Stereo with a redundant remote control. :-)

  Hi, luniz. I realize the important psychological benefit for these mechanical devices as a reminder to slow down in speed-prone areas of town, but in Cockrell Hill, a police cruiser is never far from where they're posted. I think they may only be an effective deterrent in the absence of a citation, whereby "Oh, I need to slow down" quickly turns to "@#$%, I've been busted".

  My comments above are more in response to nina_chawla's post on a speed trap in Highland Park than in condemnation of the devices in this story lead.

  Kholmes, if speed traps were exclusive to recessionary times, I might indeed buy that argument. Perhaps smaller towns should look into investing in rental properties as a means of sustainable revenue; it has never rested well on my business sense that municipalities would rely on ticket scams as a means of civic preservation.

  Oh. Don't get me wrong. 'Speeding' is dangerous! I just don't buy the "you were going 32mph down a steep slope of road in a 30mph zone, so here's a ticket" line as legitimate law enforcement in a depressed area trying to rejuvenate. It's bad for local businesses because it scares commerce away.

  What's wrong with he Space Shuttle/Cowboy design? It hasn't been given a full chance. But I sort of agree with Scott on the solid color option. In a times of economic uncertainty, simplicity often cuts costs. My personal favorite, to this day, is the old black font on a white plate with TEXAS on top. Nothing says 'frontier state' like a generic, utilitarian plate on an old pickup or Cadillac.

  Ooh! That makes it all the more rememberable. My last minute seats were horrible, but the sound in the loft couldn't have been better. I would have enjoyed attending both nights; and it's too bad that it wasn't recorded as a live show archive. I've watched some live recordings of the group that were certainly no better produced.

  Having attended the first night of the concert, the sound and performance was tight, energetic and enjoyable. A ticket holder might only be vaguely familiar with the Moody Blues list of hits and favorites, and nonetheless be quite satisfied from the opening song through the encore. And the DSO was an excellent accompaniment. In a sophisticated rock concert within an acoustic architecture, there was an unpretentious exchange of admiration between the audience and performers that was both intimate and warm.

  Thanks for previewing this performance. A couple of months ago, ticket prices were estimated to be significantly higher than they're now stated, so it looks as though I 'will' get to go, after all! And this makes me very, very happy.

  It seems as though the assailant's twisted logic in this case would have prompted shooting the barking dog than the neighbor. But I guess he wanted to fight.

  Perhaps a great irony to any commercially leased property on the Tollway would be that motorists merging in and out of shops would negate any expedited safety benefit that the zip-cash lanes once offered. And once again, rush hour commuters will collide and curse one another as technology reaps greater revenue than manned toll booths for the NTTA. Money, money, money! And those roads will never be paid-for.

  I suspect that the NTTA will lease the real estate of the unused lanes and cash booths for conversion into something much more lucrative than bathrooms for construction crews. I predict that we'll see gas stations awkwardly placed on those portions of the tollway within our lifetime.
