North Texas musicians and fans have a new best friend: KXT's Gini Mascorro
The problem is that you can't read between the lines TB. Why do you think KERA was able to get "very favorable loans"?
Because they are considered a good credit risk! And why is that? Because one of their sources of revenue is govenment funding.
Without government grants flowing to KERA (and KXT indirectly) the economics of the acquisition changes, and probably doesn't happen. Try thinking for yourself, rather than just digesting PR put out by KERA. Connect the dots dude!

There is no need for your name calling...either you have the facts on your side, or you don't. But your name calling is childish and diminish your comments, which are vacant of facts.
I am sure you are competent in whatever realm of the universe you operate, but your knowledge of public finance and corporate balance sheets is lacking. What KERA is doing is just shifting money around, it is a Bernie Madoff accounting trick for them to claim public funds are not invovled in the KXT deal.

And George Bush said.."the war is won" but we all know that was a lie.
KERA's answer is a shell game.....KERA gets federal funding and grants to operate KERA, then goes out and buys KXT and has the audacity to tell the public they didn't rely on public funding.....believe it if you want to......but the facts are the facts......KERA relies on government funding, and that government funding enabled KERA to purchase/operate KXT.

The following quote is taken from the KERA website (Grants and Foundations page)....
"...strategic goals of KERA’s educational services and programming by helping to secure funds from private foundations and government sources."
As Mediawonk acknowedges in the above post, KERA's operating budget is dependent on Uncle Sam. If the federal funding is so small, then why doesn't KERA go totally private and not accept federal funding?
If you think they KERA doesn't receive federal funding (from NEA, programming underwriting, etc) then you are dilusional.
And the new station was paid by leveraging their federal funding and grants.

Government sponsered non-sense. The region has plenty of musical formats available without government paid radio programming.
We (USA) are broke; can't afford to pay for basic social services for the needy, and certain groups of people clammer for government funding of alternative music.

Revisiting the Library Bar at the Warwick Melrose Hotel in Dallas
I agree...which means I am left to making mine at home...imbiding (with the Mel Torme vinyl spinning), then out the door, properly nourished for dinner!
I will definetly give Rye a try! Rye is a very underrated beverage.

Luniz:
You caught my attention. You seem to know your Manhattans.....I am a fan of the delicious concoction myself, and am always searching for the bar/mixologist who can make a near perfect one. Any tips?
PS: the bar at the Palomar makes a terrible one.....they only had one kind of vermouth, it was the sweet kind and it wasn't italian...2 requirements in my version.

Why in a few months? If they are losing money wouldn't they shut down earlier rather than later?
I think the owner of The Grape needs to go on the record and not let the above speculation stand uncommented.
If untrue the above comment is unnecessary and puts fear into people who are working at The Grape.

New KERA station puts focus on North Texas music scene
If you believe that KERA doesn't get governmnet funding through various grants your an idiot. Here is the take from Wiki...
Funding Like other noncommercial stations in the United States, KERA broadcasts on-air pledge drives to raise money to pay for programming. The majority of KERA's funding comes from membership pledge drives. Additional funding is accrued through corporate sponsorship and underwriting announcements. Only 10-percent of the station's funding is government supported.
Ah 10% is from government funding sources....i.e. taxes.....
It isn't whining, it's a fact.

tetsujin28...are you kidding?
The Chinese are hoping we fail to pay on the debt. If we defaulted, they (the Chinese and rest of the world) would walk right in (with the full weight and authority of the World Court and world opinion) and start seizing assets including timber and minerals in national parks, national lands and the rest of our treasure. All to pay off the debt that we owe them.
But keep in mind big spenders, that we got that publicly funded radio station in return.

Folks, we (the US) are broke. If this venture is being funded with tax dollars it is self indulgent and criminal.
We can't afford, nor do we need tax funded music stations.

Going deep dish into Dallas' Chicago-style pizza scene
The great thing about NY style is that you can eat it while standing on the corner (say 1st Avneu and St. Marks where Stromboli Pizza is) and watch the girls walk by...but with deep dish you need to be sitting at a table with fork, knive and plate.....I like the simplicity of thin slice.....just fold and eat it !!!

Now if we can only get Barney's to go back to it's successful roots - selling only men's clothes at reasonable prices.

A for real pizza joint: 50 years, 5 generations, one location. That's dedication to the love of pizza.
Forgetabout Russo's and everyother corporate chain with a gimmick like "coal infused ovens" or what ever.
