The future is NOT based around the gasoline powered internal combustion engine. Global warming, dirty air, and expensive gas make that a certainty. Too bad Dallas doesn't seem to have the foresight to plan for that.

Veegee's comment is partly true-- the problem is illegal EMPLOYERS who are breaking the law and taking advantage of these workers. However, most of the time only a fraction of the cost of goods and services is determined by labor, even with LEGAL employees. The vast majority goes to executive salaries and perks.
What we should do is dry up the demand by targeting these employers. Thus, forcing the employers to pay a living wage to their workers. And also work on the border security. If Farmers Branch really wanted to work on enforcement they could establish a committee to supplement ICE's work or figure out some other measure to target these lawbreaking employers. Instead, FB has decided to turn itself into a "Sundown Town." Which will do nothing to solve the problem. And they say it's not racist.

May I point out how completely idiotic it is to assume that there is a rental housing shortage in Farmers Branch? Please show me your sources that prove that there is one.

Racism, hm, that's actually a bit too kind of a word for this ordinance. Let's call it what it really is: FASCIST.
Proof of citizenship to rent an apartment? That's WAY too close to "Papers please!" for me. What's next? You have to show proof of citizenship to buy food at the grocery store? How about official Farmers Branch roadblocks on each road into the city where people have to show their passport and state their business for entering the city?
CITIZENS! We must submit to the control of the state for the better good of all!
And I would bet you a nickel that tonight, citizens in Farmers Branch will go out to eat in restaurants that employ illegal immigrants in their kitchens (and pay them terribly) and they will go to sleep in houses which were built by illegal immigrants (for low wages). It's the dirty little secret of this area in general-- cost of living is low because LOTS of businesses employ illegal immigrants. Oh, but FB doesn't seem to MIND that ... just so long as they sleep somewhere else. Outside the city limits.
Fascist Farmers Branch. It even has that nice alliteration thing going.

All I know is that I'm an election judge in my precinct and if I see anybody at all behaving badly within the distance marker (or even outside the distance marker) I'm gonna open a can of whoopass on them so fast it'll make their head spin. :P

LOL.
If I recall correctly, in order to get on the ballot county-wide you have to get somewhere around 2000-3000 signatures. I personally know of at least one judicial candidate (now a judge) who got all of those sigs mostly by himself, with maybe 2-3 other people helping him.

Wait a minute. He's been running for, what, a YEAR, and he had to send out a last minute call to make sure he got a little cushion room for 473 petition signatures?!
Hahahahhahaha. That's completely ridiculous. If you did 50 sigs a month for 12 months you could do that WAY EASY. Hell, on the run up to the 2004 election I registered 500 people to vote ALL BY MYSELF in six months.

How many signatures are required to get on the ballot for the mayoral race, anyway?
