Recent polling confirms Fort Worth's Wendy Davis poised to defeat current Senator Kim Brimer in Senate race this November

Has it escaped your notice, that either candidate, running unopposed in the primary, would have won regardless? While Kim Brimer has worked diligently to piss off conservatives and independents equally, the fact that either candidate, in the absence of competition, won a specific number of votes, is meaningless in the GE. Some people might have stayed home because the primary was a foregone conclusion, yet others might have turned out to assure that neither Obama or Clinton was the national candidate.

Denton County's "No Refusal Weekend" targets drunk drivers

Hope Denton has the money to defend against the law suits this might engender. The arresting officer should also likewise submit to a breathalyzer and a blood test, fair's fair!

Stephenville UFO traveling at 27 mph apparently broke no speed limits

Wonder if the Radar gun had the memory feature that allows you to call up previous "hits"? Seems to me that being able to document a ping, even a 27mph. ping would be important to those who seek to make these sightings more than goofball items in the local news.

State District Judge Robert Dry files in the Republican primary for re-election

Texas is famed for the corruption and cronyism of its family courts. Sadly, Texas also remains near the top when it comes to death or injury to a child in the custody of the "primary custodian" as dictated by the Judge.

Pull a few case files on just about any Judge (but not every) in Dallas, and note how many T.O.'s there were (T.O.'s is my term for turn overs, where the plantiff's original divorce attorney, realizing which Judge has been assigned their case, turns the client over to an attorney who "wins" in that court beyond all probability or what the evidence might suggest).

This T.O. process is simply a means of getting around the "random selection" process for assigning cases to Family Court Judges.

Regardless of who's math you use, given the number of divorces filed in Dallas, the number of Judges and visiting Judges, and the number of days that the courts are open, its mathematically impossible for any attorney to have the overwhelming majority of all their custody divorces heard before the same Judge.

Indeed, the "random selection" process was developed to address earlier concerns over cronyism and corruption. Obviously, the process failed.

Those who actively seek the position of Judge, for whatever reason, often weren't all that successful as lawyers before seeking office. Regardless, this is not an argument in favor of returning the same Judges to office, over and over again. Nor should the objective of our courts be to ensure "full employment" for the legal community!

Judges, particularly family court Judges, should follow the existing law, not make it up as they go along. Especially so when you consider the monstrous, insurmountable roadblocks that Texas puts in the way of citizens who seek to recuse a Family Court Judge for cause, or those who want to appeal a Family Court Judge's decision.

There are no benefits for the public in retaining Judges who essentially are required to follow the law thats already on the books. Long term seating of Judges only limits those who have an opportunity to serve the community in this role, and increases the liklihood that corruption or cronyism play a role in the Judges decisions. If anything, it only assures that even corrupt or marginally acceptabe Judges have cushy retirements and perks at the tax payer expense.

I'm skeptical that providing tax payer supported pensions and perks to retired elected officials serves any interest the public has. Afterall, these are trained Lawyers, they'll find work!

Better yet, pay the peons a little extra to ride their bike to work, thereby opening up some more traffic lanes and parking spaces for the corporate sales and marketing types! Who cares if the employee's smell like they slept in a cab when they get to work?

Delay of Glorypark development is no surprise

Why is it that only the "Rangers principals" can bring businesses to glory park? If the land is available, and someone shows interest in putting a business there, why not let them? I guess its just another way for the people who are already scamming millions in tax payer dollars to hold real estate hostage until they can figure out a way for tax payers to put even more money in their pocket to develope more businesses that only they benefit from.

Just a thought, but for many Texans, a day at the ball park doesn't drive most of us to any sort of shopping frenzy. I doubt that "baseball tourism" has matured to the point where luxury hotels are a necessity, certainly not in view of how the Rangers have been playing. Indeed, getting the hell out of the office to go too a ball game would seem to argue against building offices butt up against the ball park (unless you can see over the wall and watch the game for free). Lets be honest, there are only so many "baseball themed" restaurants and "baseball memorabilia" stores that our weakend economy can support. Indeed, six flags is arguably a better draw, yet no one seems interested in building hotels, condos, appartments, offices, etc,,,,.

Sometimes you've got to question not only the motives, but the sanity or rich people and their political lackeys!

    2008 Mesquite election results

Both Candidates for mayor were running for office on a policy of who could sell out Mesquite Citizens interests the fastest.

I find it fascinating that cities like Mesquite always assume that "more business, more population", is the answer to everything. It never seems to occur to these liiile martinets that perhaps some people might want to live in Mesquite because it isn't Dallas? Cost cutting and efficiency never seem to be solutions that anyone considers when managing a city. Perhaps that explains the absurdly high number of "families" that all seem to have jobs with the City of Mesquite. In Dallas, one can understand how corruption and incompetence has allowed the City to become the regions largest employer. With a city like mesquite though, its hard to understand how we can have so many people on the public payroll, all with so little to do, save for harass citizens. If any sane person actually ever runs for mayor of our town he can't possibly win because city employee's will never vote against their own self interests. Tax payers are merely sheep.

LGBT Methodists reeling after General Conference votes

Sounds like this worked out for everyone involved. Its arrogant and simplistic to expect any organization to "change" to accomodate any specific member. Indeed, if that were the case, and this were political and not religious, it would be an egregious example of political pandering. Its refreshing to see organizations and individuals each exercising their rights without forcing their will upon others through the courts.

McKinney city council candidates at odds over term limit definition

Does anyone truly want this guy to serve another term if he's too stupid to understand what the intent of the term limit law is? I doubt he's a dummy, but rather just another power mad, egotistical, small town self promoting hack, also not endearing qualities that one would support in an elected official. Do any of these politicians realize how frustrating it is for voters, citizens, tax payers to have elected official carpetbag us in this fashion? Any douche who uses a loophole or ambiguity (despite the clear intent of the underlying law) to gain public office, should be recalled immediately, and then run out of town on a rail!

Immigration rally marches across downtown Dallas

Too many people competing for limited resources has never been considered sound economic, environmental, social or cultural policy. Virtually every industrialized country, even China and Mexico, has taken steps to end illegal immigration, and too curtail legal immigration to only that which is prudent, demonstrably necessary, and above all other concerns, in the best interests of their native population. Its dangerously misguided to assert that the United States should not do likewise!

Given that we are a population stable nation (American Citizens die and are replaced in proportion by births to American Citizens) our population will never be any smaller than it is today. Arguments that there will be a shortage of workers are based on self intersted business models, and outmoded, unsustainable social security and entitlement programs, and do not reflect the reality of a country experiencing energy, water and food shortages.

High-rise apartment building going into the spot in Uptown Dallas where Hard Rock Cafe used to be

Dallas is dead anyway. The two largest employers are the Family Courts and the Police Department, the streets are a warzone after dark. Hmmmmm, more victims in a compact area.

    EdWeirdness's comment on:

Dallas CEOs and Mexican President talk business

FYI: Since Oklahoma implemented it's "draconnian" policies dealing with illegal immigrants, unemployment in that state has dropped to 3.1% (nationally, unemployment is flirting with 5%, and prior to the Oklahoma laws, that state was likewise tied to the national average). Wages are up overall, and thousands of illegals are no longer burdening Oklahoma tax payers. Employers and the COC are still whining that competing for "lazy" American workers will wreck the Oklahoma economy, but in the absence of mass closures of businesses or an exodus of employers, one must assume such bleating to be the stuff of hyperbole.

Doubtless, some COC employee's may be sweating their phony baloney gigs, as their hysteria and the millions spent lobbying to prevent the economic implosion of Oklahoma (and perhaps many other states) were obviously scare tactics and extremely misguided. Only time will tell.

Apparently, American and legal immigrant workers from surrounding states are moving to Oklahoma to fill the jobs (and the affordable housing) being vacated by illegal aliens. Indeed, statistics are starting to appear indicating that Oklahomans, long out of the job market, are again seeking gainfull employment.

As aliens crowd into sanctuary states (Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, etc,,,), more American workers will find it desireable return to the job market, or perhaps simply decide to relocate to non-sanctuary states like Oklahoma and Arizona. Arizona Employer's, early adopters of the new reality are thought to be the main beneficiaries.
