CD World shuts down both branches on Greenville in Dallas and on Belt Line in Addison
It's kinda hard to have a crush on the Record Store Girl at CD World. I don't remember a single girl ever working there.
The good thing about CD World, is that I remember when my band was just starting out, it was so easy to get CDs sold in there. They actually wanted local music to do well.
The only negatives about the place were their massive promotion of jam bands, haha, and the fact that good used stuff never really made it to their floor. It was either picked over by employees or bought too quickly, I guess.
Regardless, I still shopped there. And was actually going there yesterday, when I heard the news from someone at CD Source (the soul-less, yet more stocked of the two) that it was closed.
Thank God Mike has made the Granada into a Dallas treasure. Not to mention, he & his wife are the sweetest people in Dallas.

Toadies title track on No Deliverance hit airwaves this week
It sounds like Toadies, really. The only difference is the distorted vocals they borrowed from White Zombie in the 90's.
They should give it back.

Radiohead confirms Dallas stop, just not the date... or venue
I bet it'd be easier to get a season ticket at the new Cowboy's Stadium.

Dallas radio station 97.1-FM reverts to "The Eagle" rock format
Now that the Eagle is back, I really hope that The Edge will stop taking on their playlist.
For the first time, since owning a car, I took The Edge off the presets the minute I heard "Sweet Child O Mine" on there.

UPDATED: Dallas Deputy Pro Tem Mayor Caraway to urge youth to "Pull Yo Pants Up"
You know what I don't like?
Those little mustaches, that people have, where they shave all but the little bitty line that's RIGHT on the top of the lip. Like John Waters.
Dwaine Caraway has one. And I'd like them banned. They're an eye-sore.
Oh, and people who eat with their mouths open. I'd like them banned as well. Punishable by death.

Concert Review: Radiohead Tribute Night at Club Dada
We had so much fun. It was tough learning some of the songs, but well worth it. I've never heard Radiohead in concert, because the jerks never come to Dallas. But hearing Dylan, Holt, and the Felons made up for it.

Kelly Clarkson's My December hits shelves June 26
I realize she probably doesn't write her own songs. And I'm ashamed that I know this. But isn't "My December" a Linkin Park hit?

Chevelle gets robbed in Dallas
While this sucks, it's really only fair.
Chevelle's been ripping off Tool for years, now.

Does this mean the Observer is going to run an article about how McKinney Ave. is going to hell in a handbasket?

Trees owner throws in the towel
I totally understand their frustration. But do they need to throw their anger towards the Ellum: Onstage complex?
I mean, ok, so its church-based. But they also don't sell alcohol, don't allow smoking, and they're the cleanest place in Deep Ellum.
THAT'S why they got a permit.

DFW rapper convicted of drug charges
On one hand, I hate that drugs were being dealt. But on the other, people are going to buy drugs no matter what, and honestly, why should the law tell anyone what they can do to themselves?
Life? Really? Geez.

An Open Letter to Kinky Friedman
Lets not forget that Kinky is the only one on the ballot who's never been a Democrat.
Strayhorn went from Democrat to Republican to Radical/Conservative/independent.
Karl Rove groomed then Democrat, Rick Perry, as a Republican to run him against Dem. Jim Hightower (excellent author) for the Dept. Aggriculture.
And of course, Chris Bell is a Democrat... for now.

An Open Letter to Kinky Friedman
Ok, by saying that Kinky's camp should throw support behind Bell is assinine.
One... You're assuming that everyone who had planned on voting for Kinky, who's platform is "politicians suck", would gladly support Chris Bell.
Two... Kinky has more support right now. Chris Bell should suck it up, swallow his low-in-the-polls pride, and support someone who has a chance.
I'm sick of hearing people say things like "Kinky doesn't have what it takes to be Governor". According to the Constitution, he does. Our government was supposed to be "we the people". Kinky's the people. The founding fathers didn't want career polititions running this country/state, via corporations & lobbyists. If someone sees a problem, and they're sick of it getting ignored, it's their DUTY to run for office.
If Bell & Grandma (the low rungs on the ladder) REALLY want Perry out of office, they need to support Kinky. Because Bell's supporters are more likely to vote for Kinky, than vice versa.

We've got them "Deep Ellum Blues"
See, I'm seeing the opposite. Well, in some aspects, at least. I hang out at Club Dada a lot, and it seems to be the place to be lately. I can't comment on Deep Ellum Blues because, well, frankly, I hate the blues. Green Room was a pretty high class eatery, and doesn't really fit Deep Ellum with amazing places like Cafe Brazil, Angry Dog, & All Good, serving amazing food for a third of Green Room's price.
And come on. I realize Frank Black is an icon to a few people, but any show on a Monday night is going to suffer, especially if its someone who's been out of the indie spotlight for so long.
Head out to Dada on Wednesdays (Method Entertainment is hosting a series of "tribute" shows, featuring local artists playing Johnny Cash, or R.E.M.). Or Thursdays, where Amanda Newman from Fineline is hosting some really amazing shows.
It needs to start up again, from somewhere. Especially on a local level. Dada is practicing a form of community building, and it's working. Find the crowd (Dada) and hang out there. Eventually, it's going to spill out again.

Rage Against the Valet
Oh man.
I once let a guy valet my car. It was such a short distance, that I wasn't even in the building, before he was back, because he parked my car 30 feet away. Not to mention, he moved my mirrors to do this.
In college I had a ton of friends who did valet for extra cash. These guys were idiots. And they didn't care what happened to the cars, because the valet company "had insurance". Of course, by the time you go through all the time & trouble to get the money to fix the damage they might do, its not worth it.
And lastly... When I'm driving down Lower Greenville, and one of the valet guys from Kirby's (and they do it all the damn time), darts out in front of me, I do my absolute best to hit one. Because the valet company has insurance.
Good article.
