Foursquare survey: Dallas' 5 favorite dive bars

Talk about dive, how could they leave off Club Schmitz?

    Restaurant review: Thairiffic in Dallas

I wish the reviewers would begin noting if the places they review have WiFi. I'm trying to make a list of the places I've been that have WiFi and as I often dine alone it's nice to be able to access one's Slingbox, surf or work on email without having to use data time.

Behind the scenes at a Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives taping at Pecan Lodge in Dallas

I wonder if that Camaro has the original 350 with the solid lifter cam, Rochester quad and Vette heads? I'll bet it's a crate.

More In-N-Outs open this week: Coit & LBJ, and Fort Worth

They're building an In-In-Out at LBJ and Midway, southwest corner.

    Restaurant review: Smashburger in Dallas

I think their fries are too thin. By the time you get halfway through your burger the fries are cold.

New 12 Burgers open in Fish on Fire space on Belt Line Road in Dallas

Those missing Fish on Fire? I thought I saw a Top Cat sign going up in a strip center on Belt Line near Midway. I don't like Top Cat as much as their Hook Line 'N Sinker but they're better than Red Lobster! Also there's a not so best kept secret in Seafood Shack. A former Dairy Queen on Webbs Chapel & Forest. Almost as many varieties of seafood cocktail as Baskin Robbins ice cream!

Burger review: Club Schmitz in Dallas

I've been going to Club Schmitz for years. For years it was a big hangout for OU alumni on Friday nights before the Texas OU game. I was there one Saturday when a silver haired man in a red SMU sweater was leaving when he was called over to one of the tables. He approached the table holding out his hand and said, "Hi, I'm Don McIlhenny!" Don was a former running back for SMU, Detroit and even played with the Cowboys. He's the father of star SMY quarterback Lance McIlhenny. How cool is that! I think Schmitz is going to become famous once the Bachman depot for the Dart Green Line opens 100 feet from their door!

Restaurant review: Maple & Motor in Dallas

I was disappointed. Shredded lettuce and as I recall the buns were funky. Put icing on the buns and you'd have a sweet roll!

Sambuca in Addison closing down on Saturday, June 27

What was that? I can't hear you! Say again! It's too loud! Let's go outside so I can hear what you're saying! (Outside) There, that's better. Now what did you say? Yeah, me too.

    Lakewood's 1st & 10 Sports Bar

Bailey's is another of the many "Point" sports bar/restaurants in the area. For those who don't remember, they had been around for years but were moved out of their digs by Central Market on Lovers Lane. Not that I'm complaining! Everything you've heard about their burgers is true! They are well seasoned, juicy and HUGE 3/4 lb but cut in half to be manageable with one hand. This leaves the other hand free to scarf those tasty hand cut cottage fries and the delectable chili cartillas peppers. Ask for extra peppers as they are addictive. Like most of the other "Points", Baileys is frequented by neighborhood locals. If you're not in the Mockingbird Abrams area no need to flush gallons of gas, you can get the same burgers at any of the other "Points" including Addison Point (Beltline), Midway Point (Midway/LBJ) Northpointe Greenville between Forest and LBJ, Maple Point (Maple/Butler) or the Point West (NW Hwy west of 35E). There's some kind of Point in Old Town Village I haven't checked out so I don't know if it's part of the family. Have a burger at any of these places and you'll get the Point!

Balls Hamburgers in University Park to be replaced by Dunkin Donuts

Dunkin has never been in the same class as Krispy Kreme or Southern Maid. Best thing I remember about Dunkin is dunkin my wick with a gal who work at one.

Recently-closed Alfredo Trattoria space on Lemmon Avenue to become Tex-Mex place

Why would anyone name a Tex Mex restaurant Casablanca? Probably someone who missed a geography question on Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader! When I associate Casablanca and restaurant, it takes me to Cambridge, MA. Excellent!

    Herrera's Mexican Restaurant (Closed)

I haven't been to this Herrera's but I've been to the others including some no longer around. Everything's pretty much the same. Some of the best Tex Mex around. But a couple of complaints: Either their salsa's not as nuclear as it used to be, or my mouth must be going numb. I can eat the salsa they serve now like soup! Also, they no longer garnish the Pepe's Special with jalepenos, one has to make the request.
