Not as good as some of Gene Street's other creations, but I still like going. The building is still haunted by the ghosts of late nights at Phil's Delicatessen. Phil's was a popular late night destination for DSO musicians in tuxedos and formals. In high school I turned my shiksa dates onto matzo ball soup at Phil’s! Oh, this is supposed to be about Lucky’s. Suffice it to say, I don’t have as much to say about Lucky’s as I do about Phil’s.

Elvis would probably say, "A hunk a hunk a burger love!" DFW hasn't had a "Burger joint" like this since the original Goff's on Lovers Lane (before he built the building with Lenin out front, Goff's was a ramshackle hut). Kinkaid burgers are a little reminiscent of the old Here ‘Tis on Knox. Anyone remember that?

A truly unique Tex Mex experience. From the flavor of the food to the way it’s served, Joe T’s does it their way. And their way has worked for decades. It’s a wonderful dilemma but whenever I trek to Fort Worth, I always have a hard time deciding whether it will be Joe T’s, Angelo’s, Kinkaid’s, Cattleman’s and now to make matters worse, I understand the Pappas family is now serving prime burgers in Cowtown! Decisions, decisions!

If there is better fried seafood 300 miles from salt water, I've yet to find it. Consistently the best fried shrimp I've ever had. Last time we went (March 08) the fried oysters were so big a whole one was too much for a single mouthful! HL&S put the Mexican seafood cocktail on the map in Dallas.

With the demise of Gilbert's, thank heaven Ed's/Deli News came around! Open faced Reubens are to die for! Traditional clear broth matzo ball soup is not as interesting as the loaded version at Bagelstein's but it's delicious without a doubt. Tables are small and crowded.

This is the ONLY Sonny Bryans. The others are pretenders and are among the worst BBQ joints around. Fortunately the ghost of Sonny still haunts the original location and you can still envision Sonny's smile as he's chop, chop, chopping away in his Mrs. Baird's paper hat. Worthy of its reputation. BTW, the Food Network recipe for Sonny's onion rings works, but it's better if you let the rings rest on a wire rack for 15 minutes before frying.

LOUD! RUGRATS! Seems there's a kiddie birthday party going on everytime I've been. I can't really say what the food is like because I could never hear myself eat!

This street has the right Genes. Good burgers and a more than serviceable chicken fried steak (as one would expect from a Gene Street establishment). When the weather's nice, the open panels give a sidewalk cafe ambiance.

A 5 for the food since that's what Marco's is all about. No dine in (well hardly), no delivery. Just my favorite pizza in Big D. The smell of yeast knocks you over when one enters. I'm suprised Dallas' finest haven't raided the place for running a still because that's what it smells like! Like the movie Mystic Pizza, Marco's has a certain flavor/aroma that one can't quite put one's finger on. As the lady in the movie says, "You bet your sweet ass you can't!"

I've tried most of the top rated steakouts and Pappas is in a class by themselves. The food is exquisitely prepared, presented, practically orgasmic. The wine list takes enology to new levels. I wonder if the younger people I see there know it’s Nat King Cole providing much of the background music?

The Beach Boys with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Beach Boy trivia: Though surfing was a prominent theme in many of the Beach Boys' early songs, Dennis Wilson was the only original member who surfed. "Kokomo" was the Beach Boys' first hit in 20 years and ended up being their biggest selling single. Paul McCartney once said that "God Only Knows" was the most beautiful pop song ever written.
