Great observation Scott, great observation. I guess this is a creative way to keep the issue out there in the public eye?

Very bazaar that they would start anything until the vote. Very important for those who are against it to turn out and vote!

gzrs, you indicate there is no place for these people to go yet we are told there are open shelter beds. Why do they choose to stay under a bridge living in a cardboard box if a warm dry bed is available?

It is bazaar that the operator of the place would not know where to look or that this could even possibly happen.

And may I add that cruelty does no one any good homeless or impoverished. Both segments get more of that than they deserve.

I agree with what you are saying yet the larger part of the homeless population is not seen by most people. It is the visible homeless that create the stereotype many perceive as the whole of the homeless population. Yes they should work and most do some kind of work. There will always be people who play the system, homeless or not. So no, we cannot and should not lump them together as one. It is the difficulty people have escaping homelessness that most people have very little understanding of unless they personally see it or experience it themselves. Most people do escape it but it takes time and typically assistance from others.

Didn't a city in California recently lose a big lawsuit over this kind of activity? Maybe it is time for the ACLU to visit Dallas!

sigh, please keep sharing. We need more of this reality. I had no idea that Dallas was bulldozing camps again. Why no press on this?

Clay, you are an ass! You assume that everyone who is homeless is there by choice and able to work. That is not the case. Many of them already work, they just don't make a livable wage. What about the disabled and/or mentally ill? I guess we just need to euthanize them? Rick, I agree with you. This is going to get more serious and people will be taking desperate measures to survive.

Dallas homeless organizations need to develop trust
Considering a large number of the homeless suffer from some sort of mental illness which directly contributes to their homelessness, any obstacle would be a challenge.
A difficult situation with no easy answer for all who try to help.

Tent camps have never been legal in Dallas. A temp solution but workable if the city and highway dept were on board. Cheaper than jail too.

With homeless, Dallas usually gets what we intend...
I love it when people try to sell the perception that if someone is poor or homeless they are a danger to society. Same as the Wall Street goons, mortgage brokers and bankers who have screwed us all over, but that is different isn't it? They did not even have to use a gun.

No worry. George and Laura are going to take care of the situation now that they are back in Dallas.

City Council needs to approve this anyway. They will never get the needed housing built if they leave it up to a few neighborhood voters who only care about themselves.

Travis, downtown would be a great idea for this kind of complex. There are many service industry and clerical folks who would benefit from it and like being near their work.
I wonder if all of those luxury lofts down there are going to get more affordable real soon!

If the owner let's a complex become a slum quality people are not going to move in. It will attract only the ones who are undesirable and don't care. I live in a tax credit complex that is far from new and it is fine. The owner is currently doing a renovation of the whole complex and it is really making a difference. Sorry Clay, I have to disagree with your statement. It does make a difference if the neighborhood and complex is maintained. That is the owners responsibility and not the tenant. However, I do NOT think it is good to have a huge concentration of apartments in one area either. Tear down the old and build new but we DO need tax-credit affordable housing in all areas.

Dallas homeless: The good, the bad, and the ugly
Okay, wait just a second..
"I understand that the 250k President never had experience working with the “homeless” or that the 6 figured Director never had experience running any kind of 24 hour facility for the “homeless’ and that our citizens must suffer through their learning curve".
So working in MH with homeless people some of the time and working on the streets with homeless people in the 70's makes you qualified to oversee operation of a shelter? Add a director with no experience running a shelter either looks like a learning experience to me.
