Texas Transportation Commission approves $2 billion in highway projects, with none of the largest affecting Dallas or Fort Worth
Do any of these improvements include reflective lane paint?

Dallas mayor’s church of choice causing flap in LGBT circles
While I do associate homophobia with the Southern Baptist congregation I grew up in, First Baptist has 1,500+ attendants each Sunday(times TWO for each service) making it a mega-church. As mega-churches are kind of a recent development, Mr Leppert might feel more comfortable somewhere a bit smaller (and maybe less vocal about their interpretation of Leviticus).
If he wanted a church that reminded him of his SB roots, why didn't he pick a smaller Baptist church with a less outspoken pastor? There are quite a few in Dallas. Leppert might have chosen First Baptist Dallas for the familiarity, since there are many other choices, his attendance does smell a little political. His intentions probably didn't include agitating the LGBT community, he obviously did not take them into consideration.

Texas Attorney General tells Rockwall audience he has appealed Dallas judge’s gay divorce ruling
Okay, take "backwoods" out of the comment and a lot of Supreme Court cases still come out of Texas.

Alleged University Park prostitute arrested again
I think she's missing her makeup and her hair needs to be done, but she looks like the kind of person who cleans up well.

I hope this case makes it to Washington. Plenty of Backwoods-Texas laws have become awesome Supreme Court rulings.

Isn't Styrofoam the dreaded "#6 plastic" that no recycling center ever accepts?

UPDATED: Dallas-Fort Worth's wealthy homeowners expend millions of gallons of water a year
What's really sad is that a few blocks away from Highland Park, there are people whose houses would be paid off if they had money like that. I'm sure the wealthy are hard workers, but I've always been impressed by the work ethic of people with home worth less than $50,000. To pay the bills, they have to -work-. The difference, I believe is that some people start life better off than others. I have a hard time understanding why the wealthy can unabashedly spend ridiculous amounts of money on ridiculous things and then some people defend them because the wealthy have somehow earned this right?

Going deep dish into Dallas' Chicago-style pizza scene
Jesus, my understanding is that true Chicago deep-dish is a lot of cheese, sauce, and toppings. At least, that's how it was at Giordano's (-THE- pizza in Chicago) and it was delicious. If you're like me and vegetarian, it's mostly cheese.

Dallas to suspend 470 red-light camera tickets incurred by emergency personnel
My driver's ed instructor said you should always stop for red lights and if the coast is clear, go. Maybe that was bad advise too.

10-year-old Flower Mound girl arrested after fighting with sister
I could see this if the kids were like 15 and 17. That would make sense. Even then, though, I think discretion should rule.

Good for her. The more people reminded that women have brains and rights too, the better.
Although, cue the angry-white-boy syndrome... She's making it up, right?

Motorcycle passenger thrown from Bush Turnpike to service road 16 feet below
This accident would not have happened if the chic had had her own bike. I don't know how people ride as passengers. The passenger seat accepts the risk without the control or fun. I'd rather be seriously injured or killed knowing I did all I could to prevent injury. If I was just sitting there and then I wasn't, I think I'd be pissed at myself.
Also, from the situation, I gather that Mr. Torres-Perez has a rather large head. If Sanchez wanted to wear his helmet, it wouldn't have fit!

Minority leaders hope cultural advisory committee can help Dallas police force and its reputation
The Tom Thumb by UTD has a Kosher section which contains my ultimate meal: bouillon-free vegetarian ramen! I love them for that. Otherwise, the store is a little over-priced.
To the topic... No, I do not hate white people. Some of my best friends are white...j/k. It's just that I try to keep my eyes open and if you really do, the truth is that white people really have a lot of privilege. This privilege is slowly eroding as our minority populations find their voices and we will slowly find our authorities behaving more fairly. Fairness will probably lead white people to believe the police have become less forgiving, but I have a hard time seeing how this is a bad thing. Three year-olds only notice unfairness and discrimination when it's against them. Adults should be able to see it when someone else is getting the shaft.

You guys know that half the Latinos booked into jail are booked in under "white", right?
Don't believe me, go to Dallas County jail look-up and put in any random letter in the first and last name slot, no birthday is needed, pick a gender, and alternate between the race choices: Hispanic and Nonhispanic.

I don't believe police brutality is as big a problem for white people as it is for others. Also, when we get stopped for braking some traffic law or another, don't we get sent on our way with a stern warning half the time? My understanding is that this really doesn't happen for people other than the pasty kind.
Beyond that, if a police brutality tape against a white person made the news, the police officer would receive the kind of criminal charges that stick. Our voting base would not stand for it, because the voting base is mostly white.

Do you think that maybe you feel under-represented because in the past our race has been over-represented? I mean, are you feeling under-represented or are you just feeling your privileges being taken away?

Debating tobacco prohibition for Texas 18-year-olds
I understand the mentality to ban or regulate dangerous things. Sadly, we should have learned our lesson during Prohibition when organize crime really took off. Banning things people enjoy like cigarettes and tobacco generally just creates more crime. Us "young-folk" do enjoy adventures and are surprisingly industrious given the right motivations. Which is to say that the ban will not stop "youngins" from smoking at all. The only function this bill will have is to increase revenues for local municipalities.
