Texas Transportation Commission approves $2 billion in highway projects, with none of the largest affecting Dallas or Fort Worth
It took me an hour to go from Bush/35 north to Denton last night at 6pm. That would seem to me like there is a need to expedite the widening of that highway with my tax dollars, no?

Restaurant review: Metzler's Bar-B-Q in Denton
I'll have to try it. I drive by the University location all the time and never think to do it. That is pretty cheap too considering it's $5 for a sandwich at Dickeys.

Movie review: 2012
Did you learn nothing from the classic Tommy Lee Jones movie "Volcano"? Of course people in Los Angeles can out run lava! But if it ever does reach you, duck and cover, like on Southpark.

Cities can install bike paths and bike lanes on their roads. There isn't a need to legislate it.

T. Boone Pickens pushes his energy plan to packed house at UT-Dallas
You're right, but I am talking about homes, businesses, etc. You can use solar for those quite easily. Only drawback right now is that solar panels are not cost effective.
Also if you'll notice how lax our government has been in placing restrictions on local gas drillers, you can imagine the dismay of some people. They have little regard for air quality and ground water. That is going to be a problem if it is not addressed quickly. The TCEQ and Railroad Commission turn a blind eye.

I hate to, but have to agree with him. But I think he should invest more in solar tech too. Gas drilling isn't the answer.

Movie review: Disney's A Christmas Carol
I saw a screening of this Tuesday and it was indeed rather creepy. But some purest friends of mine mention that is how the book was meant to be. I think we're too used to the Scrooge McDuck version to remember it.
I liked the movie. Just wasn't mind blowing.

Hanson / Hellogoodbye / Sherwood
I went to this concert (yes I paid for it). And I am so glad I did.
This was my first trip to House of Blues. Being a Sunday, it didn't seem like it was overly crowded and the ease of getting in the door was quick, as they scanned tickets with a bar code reader. The doors opened promptly at 6pm as mentioned on the tickets. The crowd was very diverse in both attire, race, and age (kids around 10 yrs old all the way up into the 50's)
I admit I am a Hanson fan dating back to the mid 90s. I have no shame in that and catch a lot of flack for it. But they have matured into a great pop rock almost folk band.
The opening acts I had heard of in passing and maybe didn't necessarily know them until I heard some songs.
Sherwood is a band I had become aware of on the ever dreaded MySpace. I hadn't ever listened to them before, but their 30 min set was pretty good. 3 guitarists seems a bit over the top, but whatever.
Steel Train was the next act up. Another act of indy pop bliss, with an over the top lead singer. But very talented guys. I've heard they're from New Jersey, so of course they have to be good.
Hellogoodbye is another indy power pop act, complete with nerdy boys in dark rim glasses, but in that really hot way. This was another band you may not know unless you heard a couple of their local radio hits. But the crowd was way into them as well. The bass player even obliged us by taking his pants off for one song. Their finale was their 2006 hit "Here (In Your Arms)", and were joined by Sherwood and Steel Train, and what appeared to be some fans who won VIP passes.
The night wore on and Hanson finally made their appearance after 9:30. I had never seen Hanson live and was very excited. They play live just as they do on their recorded studio albums. Noteworthy is that they were the only band of the 4 who played an actual piano that wasn't synth. They have aged into very talented musicians. They are not the novelty kids they once were. They are now 29, 26, and 24 year old guys who are married with kids, and who haven't missed a beat. They informed us a new album was on the way in 2010, so they mixed new songs with many of their past hits.
Unfortunately, since this show went on forever and a day, I had to leave early, even before I got to hear MmmBop! But since I made use of the DART Red Line from the Parker Station, it was either leave or get stranded. So if anything else cool happened after around 10:50pm, then someone else will have to be the one to inform everyone.
Overall, great venue and great sound. Had a great time at the HOB.

Small shops make Carrollton’s downtown area complete
Went to the downtown for the 1st time during Santa Fe Days. It's a nice little spot. Nothing fancy but it's a good change from the strip malls.

DISH to open in Ilume complex on Cedar Springs in Dallas November 5
Is that gimmick infringement on the name? DISH (all caps) is also the name of the town in Denton County that changed it's name from Clark in order to get Dish Network free.

League of Women Voters has a nice guide to these too. I am voting no on a few of them. Prop 11 is overkill in my opinion.

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines debuts green plane with environmentally friendly interior materials
Any idea if airports recycle? I worked at one long ago but all trash just went in the trash as far as I know. All those aluminum cans and plastic cups on the planes would generate a large amount of trash.

I live on the 380 corridor and we need more places like this. One can only take so many frickin Sonics.
CH failed to mention the deli is also uniquely placed next door to a Subway. That does take some balls.
I may give it a try if I am heading that direction, though it is a bit out of my way since I am west of 423. Unless of course I am heading towards the "boonies" of McKinney.

Democrats protest and file charges against Collin County election judge
Some election judges apparently believe they are above state laws and fair elections.
We had an incident in The Colony at City Hall where a judge refused to allow my volunteers to hand out campaign literature, even though it was outside the marked area. Upon questioning our volunteers INSIDE the poll, in full view of voters, when they identified themselves as Democrats, the judge and clerk both made snide comments.
So this is nothing new. The GOP, even in areas they know they will win by a landslide, continue to deny access to voters and to fair campaign practices.

Norma's Cafe
This is now open. A little pricey for the style of food, but not bad. The entire location was packed just before noon. I was served right away and food arrived within 10 minutes. Very good food.
Spent $10 since the waitress did not charge me for my Coke. 2 large fried pork chops w/ two veggies, corn bread, and roll.

I'm lost in this new layout. :_( Someone hold me.
Jason, in general we made the fonts bigger. But in the comments I see your point. We'll look at it.
