Incredible Japanese "food porn" on Dallasfood.org

Because Horse are a 'working animal' their meat is usually very tough and not great on taste. But I guess anything can be great wrapped in Bacon.

Crazy-heavy speedtraps in East Dallas Wednesday AM

I'm fine with it as long as they are only pulling over people coming from south of the Buckner/Ferguson intersection whose cars need some body work or have too much body work.

White Rock Lake lights update -- 2/24/09

Ummm... So... Lets say I'm a very lazy stalker/rapist/mugger/bad guy.

Does this mean I can just lay down on a bench in the dark with a beer and just wait for some motion detecting lights to come on? And wouldn't lights going on and off no matter where they are pointed be allot more annoying than ones that just stay on.

Dallas is Growing and shows no signs of shrinking. White Rock cannot remain as it was and is simply going to have to keep up with the inevitability that it will have to deal with more people. Light the Trail. All of it. It will save lives and deter crime.

There was nothing in the master plan about the Sun illuminating the park either. Should we now go and remove that too? I agree with xdavidwattsx. Why all this stubbornness to implicitly follow 'The Plan?' Whats done is done and I think the park has been improved for it. I also agree that I would use the park more when better illuminated. I get off work at 6 (fairly early) but during fall through spring, it is too dark. Why spend effort to tear down what is done and enjoyable. If the contractor over stepped the 'Big Plan' then don't pay them. Changes and improvements at White Rock Lake should not have to be OK'ed or approved by the residences who live around the lake. If they don't like the Lake being illuminated, they should move. It is for all Dallas citizens and its usage should be encouraged at all times of the day. If you want an 'intrinsically dark shoreline' then perhaps you should go to a lake that is not smack in the middle of the 4th largest metropolitan area. This move IS regressive.

Free Pacman Jones! (or at least let him back on the field)

@Clay Got your point. If you don't care, why are you writing on blogs about it? …..Twice. I myself am fascinated by how the media in almost all areas whether it be sports, weather, or politics, continues to behave like lazy sheep. The lack of independent thought or thorough investigation by so-called ‘journalists’ is sad. This is the most investigative piece I have seen or heard on Mr. Jones in all of national and local media. I think this particular issue, serves as a microcosm as to how journalism operates these days. One reporter reads an AP Post, and just extrapolates from it rather than doing their own individual work. Pitiful.

    @ Clay213

What the hell does it matter what kind of money, a guy makes? If you’re jealous, then why don’t you try out for the Dallas Cowboys and quit serving up a persons income as to how they are to be judged? It is refreshing to see a sensible article written on this man. I totally agree with you, Mr. Henson as opposed to such media big heads like Mr. Dale Hansen, ESPN, and every other fool who hops on any lazily traveling bandwagon that comes along. Pac Man is here to play football, period; and not to be a priest. After today’s performance with the Rams, I for one would have loved to have seen Pacman out there on defense no matter what the guy’s personality is off the field. There is no harm, no foul in this incident, only overreaction by people who never saw anything or were even present at the hotel.

New product Wednesday, at Dallas-area liquor stores: patriotic Pommery Pop champagne

The Statue of Liberty was given to us by the French and they ran the naval blockade to keep the British out during the Revolutionary War so I suppose this is OK.

Dallas chef Gilbert Garza defends wife, Next Food Network Star contestant Lisa Garza

These shows are edited to create friction and drama. 'Reality' is a misnomer but you can't call reality shows 'Lets shoot everything around random people then cut, paste, and edit some stuff together for a 30 minute show so that we dont't have much production costs' shows. Perhaps 'Editing Shows' would be more appropriate. Mr. Garza shouldn't worry. The smarter viewer knows that they are leaving allot of her character out on purpose. Probably for some editing reason.

Zoning changes filed for Dallas Carnival site

By reading the headline, I was really hoping we were getting an actual carnival on Lower Greenville. How truly wonderful it would be to have all sorts of Carnies like the Bearded Woman, the Snake Boy, the Worlds Fattest Man, and Pickles the Clown to wander our fare neighorhood....just wandering....imbibing.... and pissing in our yards. Wouldn't that be wonderful Avi?

Booming Latino population helps keep Dallas-Fort Worth economy afloat

I recognize that SOME see it as a deeper problem. Probably a prejudical problem. I and I would argue about the "Asian Assimilaton" as there are a few that branch out but in my experience of having been engaged to a partially Vietnamese woman, I found that most stick to their own culture in conducting business. But it really does come down to economics and money. It always does. Texas now has the lowest unemployment rate since 1976. We need workers, whether skilled or unskilled. A fair, equitable immigration policy is important. But the last legislation propsed required an alien take off work a week, two weeks, or a month (or longer) to return to their home country to renew a visa. The recent passport mess created by Congress, makes it nearly impossible for even U. S. citizens to leave and enter the country. Most illegal aliens have been paying into Social Security under fake SS cards, thereby enriching the U.S. Treasury with no prospect of receiving anything back. I would rather see money that goes for bulding a wall to set up English immersian(sp?) programs. My only personal problem as a doctor, is that I find that the language barrier is a wall in and of itself. I encourge "Spanish Speaking Only" patients to learn the English language if at least for an Emergency situation. Perhaps if people would concentrate and encorage immigrants to learn the language and stop trying to throw other issues like terrorism, health care, drain of U.S. economy etc., we would see that this "Culture" issue is not really a big deal as SOME would believe.

Booming Latino population helps keep Dallas-Fort Worth economy afloat

Bear with me, but I think George Bush is really the only one making sense on this issue. Here in this area, we have been dealing with immigration from Mexico since this state was a republic. Hell, Mexicans stood AGAINST Santa Ana at Goliad and the Alamo. Our culture is entwined with northern Mexico from the food to the music, to the overall culture and I kinda resent the xenophobic northern, republican and democrat stance on this issue. To me this issue has really only come up as the cheap labor of immigrants is only now threatining the high cost of Northeast Union labor.

And I don't buy the way some people, mostly the far right, try to piggyback the terrorism and security issues on top of immigration. If it is terrorism that you are really worried about, then deal with terrorism. I think the U.S government will find the Mexican government much more accomidating to help us stop a nuclear weapon being smuggled into Mexico to the United States than smuggling people who are coming here to simply earn money for their families back in Mexico. Afterall, why would some alien spend their life savings to get into the United states only to get blown up? It certainly would not help the Mexican economy to see the U.S. go through another 9/11. The devastation to the travel industy alone would strike another huge economic and political blow to the delicate Mexican economy and political state. We should be more worried about weapons coming from Canada as there have been numerous plots thwarted from that direction allready.

These people come here to earn money, provide for their families and seek a better life (Isn't that the American spirit?) and aside from not going through the lengthy, expensive, and arduous immigration process, they are law abiding, hardworking, and family oriented people who contibute to our economy at least as much as you may feel they take away. We need cheap labor to compete in this global economy.

Hey, I am all for deporting drunk drivers, murderers, and any illegal alien that commits a felony. Do whatever needs to be done with them. But to scream "But they are illegal!" and every one of them needs to be deported makes about as much sense as throwing everyone who drives one mile over the speed limit or everyone who lights a cigarette in a Dallas restruant/bar in jail and I don't see people advocating that.

But I really think that building a big wall is a stupid idea. Legal Citizens who actually live in those border counties don't want to see some big gnarley wall traversing through their landscape and hunting/fishing grounds and will tell you they could certainly put the money that can be used build a wall for much better purposes like hospitals, roads, etc.

The culture is always going to change in this country. It is not static. With every foriegn war or upheval, there is always an influx of immigrants. It seemes to me growing up, Dallas was a White, Black, and Hispanic city. Now, we have a huge Asian population. There are pockets of Persian, Russian, African, and many other cultures here now. The 2 big political parties are in disarray. I believe The Hispanic population values fall allot more in line with the republican party then the democrat party and perhaps Bush is reaching to exploit that. Smart idea for either political party.

Video coverage: White Rock Lake spillway

Every time it rains, news cameras go scurring to the spillway. Think about the word "spillway." It sounds like a path for milk and cereal, meaning, "not that exciting". I heard some talk ealier that someone was going to re-design that area of the lake. I really hope they re-design the spillway so that when it rains we can rename it "White Rock Falls" or "Dallas' Class 5 adventureway" or something.

No Kidding. Perhaps he could transfer some of the money he's recieved from the big insurance companies to reform workers compensation, or at least some of the Merck & Co. money from the HPV vaccine to the Community Colleges. I am sure there is plenty.

It's time to get mad about Lower Greenville's future

My boss doesn't care as long as I get the job done and I'm a good multitasker.

What people fear is big box stores and chain places in an area never known for that. Some people, especially with a financial interest, label this as "Progress." Dallas has more than its share of that crap. There is a Baker Brothers allready in Old Town. There is a BIG difference between that chain and John's Cafe. I'd take a Corner Market (McCommas/Greenville) over a Starbucks any day of the week. I'd rather have an Adairs than a Bath and Body Works because another Adairs type place is within the "character" for Lower Greenville. Its an adult oriented area and always should be. Even a nice tasteful bikini bar would fit in. More guitars, less baby strollers for the area I say.

And what is this obsession with urine? Were you pee'd on when you were a child?

Well, if I have to drink and piss in your neighborhood perhaps it will help wash away your B.S. out of mine. I live in the area too Avi. But unlike you, I knew what I moved into when I came to the area. I've had plenty of people piss in front of my old apartment and now in my front yard. Yee Haa! I love the St. Patrick's Day parade which began 10 YEARS BEFORE YOU MOVED HERE!! I did not move to this area to raise a family. When I'm ready for a family, I'll do what you should do and MOVE. You should have moved somewhere else in 1980, maybe further east or up in Plano. There really is nothing more irritating than some transplant moving into the area and getting all active because they want to change it in their own image. Where did you come from prior to 1980? I remember The Clash at Arcadia, I remember Poor Davids Pub, I remember the Royal Rack and Cue, I remember sitting on my Mom's lap at shortly after the San Francisco Rose opened. I remember the old owners of The Ole Moon keeping squirrels as pets. I've been around this area allot longer than 1980 and I love that south of Belmont is an edgy, creative, if not a little scary area. It has an unsterile character that cultivates free thought. (This is probably what you would dismiss as "scummy".) I would love to see more live music venues, galleries, funky clothing shops, and sure even restruants. Nobody is saying there should not be progress. Afterall, the only certainty is change itself. But, stop trying to throw the baby out with the pisswater. There are other places in Dallas that are perfect for a "Cityville" type plan and Lower Greenville is not it. I applaud your efforts on violent crime and even parking issues, but now, more than ever Dallas needs its historicly loud, music oriented, and creative areas and Lower Greenville is one of them. If that means a little piss on the streets to deal with, then bring in a regular street sweeping program.

"Live, Shop Eat." What a bunch of crap. Deep Ellum was killed by the Deep Ellum Assocoation because they were trying to turn it into some kind of "Live/Shop/Eat/New York" Crap. In the process they killed what Deep Ellum was historicaly founded on. Music, night life, and yes.... rowdiness. I am a native Dallasite, lived in L.A and several other cities. They all have their own character. Why is Mr. Adelman trying to change Lower Greenville into a "Family Oriented" area. How Quaint. Its never been one, nor should be. From at least two blocks either side of Greenville, it has always been a vibrant, mostly single, and fun nightlife area. Since they killed Deep Ellum, it may be the only area left in Dallas that has any historical nightlife identity. Embrace it! Stop trying to turn our historicaly zany areas into "Family Friendly Frisco" or worse yet, some fake Manhattanesqe/Disney sidewalk Utopia with balloons tied to all the lamposts. There are places like West Village, Southlake, and Legacy Park where you can move to for that. They can develop empty lots around Downtown or in Mckinney with those too. Great. There are so many family friendly and quaint areas for people in Dallas to live but so few areas of town where creativty flows free. Yes, there are some things on Lower Greenville that are needed. Increased Police presence? Sure. But please don't Disneyfy one of Dallas' few and dying live music, creatively funky, bar/restraunt, tatoo art, wall mural, and edgy areas left. Robert Wilonsky from the Observer has some very good views on Deep Ellum which I feel can be echoed for Lower Greenville on his interview with CBS11. http://cbs11tv.com/video/?id=15872@kt...
