Pro-life ad running in Dallas targets Texas as swing state

Gotta go along with Pavel on this one. (No matter how scary that may sound!)

uh... except for the swing drinker part...I better just sit at the bar.

No doubt in my mind how devolved was being used, Mike. Even if it wasn't a real word it certainly was appropriate. but IANAW (I am not a wordsmith).

Unfortunately it just doesn't/didn't take long around here: Already another meaningful thread is starting to devolve right outta the box this morning. Instead of shaking my head and rolling my eyes, I think I'll converse with the grown-ups, have another cup of coffee, and insure the ignore button is operable. ;)

Keller High School principal Mike Krels surprisingly reassigned

Why do I get the idea all this "shuffling" is due to politics and has nothing to do with what is good for the kids?

    In agreement with Tracy.

BTW, I love the old buildings...everywhere. I'm gladdened when they are kept and recycled (so to speak) all around the country. Many a thriving tourist area has kept the old buildings/homes intact ...otherwise you just have more of the same-as-every-where-else.

This IS the "Miss America" pageant right?? Aren't these all college-attending contestants looking for a scholarship? Com'on guys...

UT Dallas hosting chess camp, yes, camp for chess

This is a really good idea. I wish UTA had something like this...will check around, maybe they do.

Thinking is become a "lost art"...on many levels.

"I'm always sorry to see a comment thread devolve into ad hominem attacks, especially when there's some otherwise good points being brought up."

Unfortunately some threads don't "devolve" into these attacks Mike. Those (yes, mean-spirited) that like to stir up folks seem to be showing a lack of respect right outta the box.

Herein IMO lies "the problem", not with those that are then forced into defense.

Perhaps lack of respect is simply a sign of the times ...sadly.

Good for those that keep coming back with " the rest of the story ".

Scott, Personally, I haven't been to DE since it's heyday. By the time you've seen most (if not every!) area disappear that held fond memories in your life, perhaps you will want to revive at least one of them too. Think of it as "comfort food". ;)

Theater Review: Homeland Insecurity: or How I Learned to Love the Patriot Act

In a way I'm glad you "revived it", Bob S.

Most all the mean-spiritedness came from those who apparently had NOT even seen the production, so IMO, it is good to end the thread with your review.

I've had folks from around the country ask me if they were going to take it on the road. There IS an interest...

Some parking spaces at the new Cowboy Stadium will be nearly a mile a way

    AnnMarie,

There will always be people with more money than they know what to do with...which I guess will be the ones that will keep this place from turning into a giant homeless shelter.

First PegNews community team trivia night Tuesday

I recognized the thread, Scott Doyle, who couldn't. I was trying to avoid calling attention to it...so I didn't pinpoint. Instead I took the brush outta the icecream (ewww!) and broadly painted in PegNews.

    Yes Jason,

I remember that too...and how they practically stole all the land from the owners in order to create that monstrosity.

    AnnMarie,

The ones I was thinking of were free...tho I never rode them. Seems I was always nearly to the car when they'd pass by. :)

Seems, in Irving, we tried to park in some business lot up on the highway and walk to the stadium...I think mainly due to the traffic jam parking lot mess in leaving after the game, tho I do recall getting stuck in it at least once.

Maybe they will have those cute little trams/shuttles/trolleys cruising the lots that folks can jump on and ride to the stadium...like they had (still have?) at SixFlags ...and Disney World...etc.

Texas Supreme Court says exorcisms are Constitutional

Not to take this thread in a different direction...I just wanted to comment. Much misinformation echoing hither and thither regarding our country being founded as a Christian nation. Before this starts a controversy, AnnMarie's post is correct. It was not.

    Back to this particular case....

    Kay's comment on:

Texas Supreme Court says exorcisms are Constitutional

    Ann-Marie,

Many good points. I've just read some of the case and (perhaps I missed it in the legalese?) could find no place where Laura being a minor was an issue. There seemed to be no indication of parental consent nor it's role in this case on either side.

Apparently the teenagers were left alone while the parents went out of town for several days. Confusion in that the parents seemingly are not actual members of this church nor allowed to "interfere because they are missionaries". Did the parents know of the practices of this church or not?

Still things we don't know I'm sure...but I agree, whatever are the standard actions they should be praticed only on adults unless the parents are present and consent...in which case the parents IMO would be held responsible for the child's welfare and not the church. But IANAL and couldn't begin to understand all the complications in this case.

I think the parents are somehow negligent...before the fact. Once again, parental responsibility involves knowing more than just where they are, but granted some parents these days don't even know that much.

Dallas homeowner must clean up SWAT team mess

You said to Rick: "It's really rude to paint the war in Iraq with the same brush as medical research, especially considering the disparity in funding between defense and the National Institutes of Health."

Then you said to me: "it's not rude to describe your posts in this thread as paranoid and condescending. It's accurate."

According to your rationalization, ONLY YOU can refer to others as rude because it's accurate?

Rick's statements were/are ACCURATE. You called him rude.

Calling YOU rude is overwhelmingly MOST ACCURATE.

Apparently you also hold a double standard for your actions and others'.

Perhaps the afflictions of selective-deafness and selective-blindness are one dis-ease.

If I was looking for a "last word" to you, it would have to be:

    FOLDEROL, dc, FOLDEROL!

Children have legal (adult) guardians....that apparently in this case gave parental concent, tho for some reasons they seem to be only mentioned as missionaries abroad and her choice of 'following in her father's footsteps'. Perhaps there are details we aren't provided, but all in all folks, Separation of Church and State is a key issue.
