Dallas a little less rich and glamorous since Khloe Kardashian Odom left

It's funny when it's big news that a "celebrity" was "nice" and "pleasant." You kinda wish that was just the norm.

Fire damages kitchen at Kalachandji's vegetarian restaurant in East Dallas

Apparently the fire did not damage the actual restaurant kitchen or dining area, so when they get the go-ahead that it's okay to turn back on the gas, they'll not be far from being back in business.

Trader Joe's second Dallas location will be at US 75 and Walnut Hill

Ah, but Teresa, you could take the train to get to LH Town Center, no driving necessary!

I personally prefer to huge empty (former) Sam's parking lot for driver's-ed. I wonder when that will be razed?

Must be late next year, they haven't started anything at that site yet - seems like it would take longer to get that built.

Which makes me think of the "Lake Highlands Town Center" - if you can call it that. They built roads around a would-be shopping center and nothing's been built for a couple of years. I wonder why shopping areas like this Preston Hollow are getting funded, and that one is apparently languishing?

    Movie review: Battleship

I'm excited about that one too. The preview was awesome in 3D (as seen before The Avengers).

Why no review from Alex Bentley? I'm guessing he liked it?

Eatzi's Grapevine branch will open on Thursday

    That review was pretty fantastic.

Is EatZi's vegan friendly? I haven't been in years, but remember it not being particularly easy to find anything there. Do they list the ingredients on all of their packaging? That's the one amazing thing about Whole Foods is they make it so easy to know exactly what your buying in the prepared foods section.

    Dallas Bicycle Cafe seeking buyer

It's where the old Centennial used to be, next to where the old Strip Club used to be (that might help, depending on how many years ago it was for you, lol).

The owner really is nice. I can't imagine they would have put all of that work into the place and not expect to get something in return from someone seriously interested in keeping it open - and if they were to close in any interim, that would seriously devalue the place.

With construction clearing up and the Katy Trail extensions underway, I have to think this is a great investment for the future. Especially if the new multifamily high-rise gets approved for across the street

glad you got to see this Teresa - wish I could have made it. Were most of the attendees from the congregation, could you tell, or...?

Photos: Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill opens in Dallas May 15

That is pretty darn funny. $9 for a bologna sandwich.

Also funny that a place such as this adopts the "heart" emoticon for "love."

I'm also upset with the city that they did not push harder to have the entire Winfrey Point site razed and replaced with this place. It could be the "Universal Studios" to the Arboretum's "Disney World" of Dallas.

    Movie review: The Avengers

Agreed freudian - very strange review here.

The Avengers seemed to me everything the X-Men could have been, but wasn't (not that X-Men was bad). Also, to your last point, the whole point of the movie was that they weren't a cohesive unit (since they were just being assembled).

Teresa - I need to get my priorities in check, look past the vegan food, and remember the BEER! Thanks for setting me straight.

I'll still prefer Texas Theater, but this is good news from a food perspective, as their menu is a little more vegan-friendly (and overall more interesting) than the generic stuff at Studio Movie Grill.

Best news for DFW art scene will be when The Citizen Theater opens in Fort Worth!

Seasons 52 to open in Dallas at NorthPark Center

I think they like to keep it a secret or something. They actually have a separate vegan menu they will give you if you ask. They also have a vegetarian and a gluten free menu. Kona Grill at NorthPark does the same.

Seasons 52 has a great vegan-friendly menu - this is huge news! Adds to the list of many other vegan-friendly restaurants at NorthPark!

Four DFW landmarks get cameo on Travel Channel show Off Limits

I really don't have the energy to fully contribute to this conversation, as I think it's ridiculous that it has even occurred, but I have to put my vote in with Rumrunner on this one. I can't understand what the big deal is here. There are many more things for us to be upset about than whether or not someone dished out a likely ton of cash in return for naming rights to a park that the ones that are complaining now probably are against anyway.

Black Eyed Pea on Greenville Avenue closed, new branch to open in Preston Center

Interesting. I still see that part of Greenville as a strong area for restaurants, with Old Town and the shopping center across the street with BBBop and stuff.

Couldn't it just be that BEP isn't very good? I haven't been there in probably 10 years.

    Bicycle Polo surges across Texas

Neat story, but I don't know how Norbuck Park is considered West Dallas?

I was just thinking it might be fun to try this (after watching the opening sequence from Portlandia, lol).

Steakhouse replacing Nana at Hilton Anatole in Dallas will be called Ser

It is a little funny that their press release extols the uniqueness of their steakhouse by describing their concept and atmosphere - which sounds exactly like all the other 943 steakhouses in Dallas.

Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge opens to vehicles March 29

You would think the City of Dallas required its citizens to sacrifice their first born to get this thing built, the way some people get in such a fuss about it.

It's a bridge. It's a really cool bridge that adds something unique to our already nice skyline and I have minimal problems with it being built, but seriously - it's a bridge. Lighten up.

And I understand pedestrian access here is a moot point, as walking along Woodall Rogers probably wouldn't exactly be desirable.

St. Paddy's Pickle Parade in Mansfield lacked one tiny thing: a pickle

I would definitely expect to see a pickle-man mascot running around scaring children, or perhaps a pickle-mobile, a la the Oscar Meyer wienermobile. Maybe next year...
