Heights Park space age playground in Richardson to become a memory soon
I thought I would mention that the nearby city of Allen has recently opened a new park that has the newer edition of the rocket slide (unoffically named "Rocket Park," no official name as far as I know). I went there recently and saw it, and plan on going back with my 2 and half year old nephew. Ironically, this new slide is made by the same manufacturer of the original one that Heights Park had (Miracle Recreation Equip.) See for yourselves:

In the City of Richardson's Master Plan proposal, they had some computer drafted sketches of this very same model as a possible idea for the new playground (which, IMO, they absolutely SHOULD HAVE went with. No brainer!! It would still be "the park with the rocket." DUH!!!) After reading the City's website, it appears that they are instead going with a treehouse theme. The new structure looks nice (also made by Miracle Recreation equip. with similar pieces), but it's a shame that they are not going to just make Heights Park an updated "Rocketship Park" and keep the tradition. This would make more sense if they REALLY intend to bring back the old rocket as an art sculpture, don't you agree??? Anyhow, the original rocket will never be replaced in our hearts. But if you have little kids in your family that you want to give the same gift of imagination and excitement that Heights Park gave us for 4 and a half decades, I suggest this new "Rocket Park" as an alternative to the usual modernized (read: BORING) playgrounds in the Dallas area. And YES, even though I'm 32, I did try the slide for myself! LOL : ) This one slides farther and faster than the old one, IMO

Dillard's next up in Valley View Center exodus
I made a brief visit to ol' Valley View a few months back on a Saturday and I was surprised at how dead the place was. I went there again today after reading about Macy's and now Dillard's closing. I'm sorry to say that this mall doesn't stand a chance of surviving in it's current structure. I don't think it can be revamped in any way, sadly. Aside from vacant anchor spaces, I saw a surprisingly high number of vacant store spaces in the rest of the mall. A lot of these shuttered stores were being used as showcase displays for other stores. The newer AMC theater stands out as the one area that is "too good" for the rest of the environment. In hindsight, it's a shame that they didn't build the theater after Macy's or Dillard's closed as an attempt to fill their former spaces. At this point, what anchors could possibly fill these spaces and actually generate new interest? What major retailers are even available options? As much as I loved this place as a kid throughout the 80's, I am pretty sure that I won't be returning to VV in the future, unless a miracle revamp is somehow accomplished. The amount of reworking that is needed wouldn't justify the costs, in my opinion. I think it's only a matter of time before this place gets demolished and is rebuilt as an open-air strip mall and/or housing, as was the case for both Prestonwood Mall and Richardson Square Mall.

Dallas County constable chases woman and two kids on Tollway
I would say that "not pulling over when a police officer is signaling you to pull over" is adequate excuse for a police chase. I mean, what,
