UPDATED: Lancaster school trustees attempt to conceal truth about LISD finances
Mr. Allen is exactly right with his observstions.
The tenor of a school district is set by the board of education and superintendent. There are only two members who advocate openness - Dr. Marjorie King and Ms. Carolyn Morris. The other five members and superintendent Lewis have a fortress mentality and Lewis has been the major factor in developing this atitude. The philosophy of the superintendent has a trickle-down effect. In Lancaster's situation the end result is not good
Thanks to Lewis' inability to provide quality leadership and management the district has borrowed more than $11,000,000 over the last four years to help the superintendent make ends meet. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent on interest that should have been used in the classrooms.
I hear that the Texas Education Agenct is auditing the Lancaster ISD. Keep your fingers crossed, Mr. Allen. Maybe something good will come out of this for the children.

UPDATED: Garland and Lancaster ISDs come up "substandard" in Financial Integrity Ratings
Hey Melcher, you are getting pretty good at reporting. Ayers & Goolsby better watchout.
Are you saying that the Lancaster ISD continues to distinguish itself by being among the lowest 1% that can't keep good financial records? Correct me if I am wrong, isn't this the same district that stands alone in the field for trying to build a hotel where there is no tourist or business travel; wanted a four-day school week; and plans to bribe teachers and students to come to work and school? There is no end to its distinctions. But cheer up Melcher. All is not bad. Lewis is improving the health of North Texans by making them laugh on a daily basis.
While I have your attention Melcher, did you know Lewis has neglected two elementary schools for going on five years so he can take pictures to prove to taxpayers he must tear them down? Wait and see. He is preparing for another bond campaign.
By the way, you know Lewis has blocked out Peg News from LISD computers. Guess he is afraid they might get the true facts. Think he can stop them from buying the Dallas News?

Lancaster ISD stays in the maelstrom - thoughts on the 'four-day' school week
I have rarely seen so much said and written about a subject that has so little historical background and sophisticated research behind it. The 4-day week is the latest in a string "attention getters" Lewis has come up with that has made Lancaster the butt of jokes around the metroplex.
Do you remember the hotel he was going to build at the southeast corner of Wintergreen Rd. and Dallas Ave.? He had funding from a group out of Las Vegas and a local real estate person was negotiating for the property. Hey Lewis, how about a progress report? When does construction start?
Now comes the 4-day week, an idea jumped up overnight to save money. Oops! Lewis finally figured out he couldn't save any money so he switched to academic improvement as his rationale. Oops! Sorry, there is no hard data to support this claim. Lewis still wants to make Lancaster boys and girls guinea pigs. He says he will try again next year. I must admit he has received lots of publicity to feed his oversized ego.
Do you think the school board will ever come up with a real educational leader instead of a publicity hound? This man is a lot of sizzle and no steak. He has the district deeper in debt than four years ago as he tries to repay a six million dollar loan and recover the lost 2 million dollar fund balance.

Lancaster ISD school capacity analysis
I'm not too smart on this school district stuff butI have been reading some interesting things lately on Pegasus News. Someone correct me if I have the wrong picture. The Lancaster ISD has space for an additional 3,000 students, L. Lewis spent the district's $2 million fund balance, he just borrowed $6 million to pay the bills until Aug 31. Seems to me he is $8 million in the hole. When he came here the district was about $3.5 million in the hole. Looks like the LISD is worse off today than it was four years ago when Lewis hit town. Did I read correctly that he just lost his third referendum in succession, this time by a 2 to 1 margin? Three in a row must be a national record. Does this make Lewis a record setting loser? I hear the board president got kicked out by the voters. Someone help me unterstand why this man is still hanging around when no one has confidence in him. Do you think a $200,000 annual salary has anything to to with it? Just asking.
