Hold up just a second. First off, this article was in the paper's Night & Day section, which targets a non-music audience and promotes general entertainment options around the metroplex. It's not a piece of music criticism, and furthermore, to that target audience, jokes about rednecks that contrast the content of the event might gasp entice those who actually think of country/bluegrass in such simple terms to rethink and attend.
Second off, and much more importantly, are you really taking something seriously that talks about "dusk-till-dawn farting contests"? If he'd attached that term to any generic music audience (particularly the Poor David's Pub crowd, in my opinion), that would still be funny. Geoff is one of the few solid local music writers left there, anyway, so be careful what you wish for.

Congrats on the win. But Cindy, even if other people have begun helping you lately, this is YOUR site. Why didn't you step up and give an acceptance speech?

"Should people stay home during high school football games because they might see some subpar play?"
Bad analogy. High school football is good because of its rough edges and imperfections... the sports equivalent of a good night at Rubber Gloves. There's a difference between high school football and elementary school YMCA ball.
"Should all of those who are too casual a music fan...flog themselves with a cat-o-nine-tails...?"
Yeah, probably.

What the hell ever. Bad festivals hurt local music, especially because of the impression they leave on casual music listeners who'd never hear the bands otherwise, and should not be encouraged.
