Concert review: Avett Brothers at The Granada (April 30)
Re: Assjack - more in the sense of super-crunchy hardcore rock. The answering machine is what made me think of Hank 3. Probably wrongly.

Good seeing you last night, pard, wish we'd had a chance to talk more. Question: did you think the encore was an Assjack tribute? First thing that flew through my mind. Excellent show.
Of course it was a cello. A bass is what that enormous, taller-than-a-man light-colored thing next to the cello was. Personally, I thought the cello added nothing but distraction - should have been a traditional fiddle.

Rangers hire Mona Lisa as manager
Pitching and prospects are this team's biggest problem.
Ach. You could dateline this 1972, 1973, 1974, et al. If the Rangers had a gut, I'd punch it, for making me miserable for pretty much one-half of each of the last 34 years.
PS Bring back the red uniforms, Tom.

Mario Tarradell does it again
That's the beauty of George to me...he does exactly that, but in such a sweet way that they keep begging for more, heh heh.
Official Dead Ambassador = SRV.

George Strait can very definitely lay as equal a claim as any of those dudes. If anything, more so, because he's beaten Nashville at their own game, on his terms, regularly, and like a drum. In fact, I wish more Texas musicians would learn from George how to manage the Trashville machine...it might run some of that other garbage out of there.

Bits of Bark's Bytes
Bark is yet another one of the really good writers that the News seemed to always have around (Gary West was another) yet quietly ignore. I read & enjoyed him since he got there until...well, until I quit buying the DMN some 10 years ago. Sorry, Ed, and congrats to PN for bullying him into doing something with yall. Consider this a vote for more of Ed, too.

Forget the FAlamo
Just wait (10 or 20 more years) till Dallas gets the Mayor Miller / D Magazine Memorial Bridges to Nowhere! Then we'll have our own indigenous culture (as long as you ignore the fact that they were designed by a Spaniard (or his interns.))

Wikitruthiness
Check Nick Carr at Rough Type on the Wikipedia 'community-ish-ness.' Yall are closer to the real way they operate than the generally accepted CW. They're probably more heirarchical than you (or DO) are.

Mario Tarradell has pissed me off again
_CD World doesn't have a track record for having sweat shops around the world._
Whether they do or don't own their own sweat shops, they sure don't have a problem selling the products that emerge from those sweat shops.
You're probably right about the LLB/Santana* comparison thing, but Mario has been off-base for at least, what, two decades now? That's why TG has a lot of readers. The establishment dudes suck. He's just throwing out random guitar heros to establish his credibility for the uninformed. Two of those heros are dead, for Pete's sake, and therefore unassailable to the generic DMN reader.
- Santana can't carry SRV's amp, though.

Ray + Price = Radio's Ass Kicker
Dang...I had no idea. That's fascinating. I've driven thru Erath Co. a million times, and never seen a single dairy farm. Or maybe those feedlots are dairy farms. Or maybe I don't know what the heck I'm talking about.

KTFW is the stone-cold nuts. Gotta frequency for KEQX??? With no website, it's hard to find, and I don't want to take a chance on landing on something playing Big and Rich.

Transitions
As the poker-playing husband who helped engineer the TG/PN mash-up, and as the background co-founding partner of TexasGigs four years ago, I strongly recommend taking off the tin-foil beanies, folks. Cindy's decision to leave was her own, and everything flowed from that. There was no Evil Corporation conspiracy on the part of Pegasus News.
I believe that Cindy's new joint will show the same sort of inventiveness and freshness that the the original did. I also believe that Mike and the crew will continue to grow into their vision of actually one day being the "media giant" some think they are. I heartily recommend that all of you continue to support both of them.
Just so it's crystal-clear to the loony ones: I'm speaking for myself (Scott Chaffin), not my wife (Cindy Chaffin). She's perfectly capable of doing that herself if she so desires. If you've been around awhile, you'll know she won a few awards for it over the years, too.
You may now replace the beanies and get back to whatever it is you do. Over and out.
