Is being ugly a hate crime? That should add a few years onto their sentences.

Avalanche of new Dunkin Donuts outlets in Dallas includes former Sheridan's site

Oh god, it's like Boston (and Cambridge and Somerville and Brookline - even Southie).

Now don't get me wrong; Boston is one of my all-time favorite cities. I love it with all my heart and look forward to going back. But Jesus, all the DD's were driving me nuts! It was like a pink and orange flourescent-lit cancer spreading across the east coast. The coffee tasted like it was filtered through cardboard and the doughnuts we all too lardy. Let's hope these Texas installments do a better job.

    Dallas: The Hidden City

Thank you, thank you. As a self-appointed cheerleader for Dallas, I have lately grown all too weary of locals dissing this great city of ours. After nights of discussing all the great things about our fair town (see your article), I finally threw up my hands, looked the naysayers in the eye, and said, "Get the hell out of here, already." But now I'm back on the sunny side of the street and will instead refer them to this great article.

(And now that I'm a homeowning Cliffdweller, I've got a whole new can of worms to deal with. So, thanks for the positive mentions of OC. We'll take what we can get to help shrug off this ridiculous stigma that Oak Cliff is a scary Larry place to live.)

    Rick Springfield

Yikes, caveat emptor: Went to see RS at a free (yes, free) show at some festival in Grand Prairie (yes, Grand Prairie) and, in the middle (yes, okay, okay) of a song he throws his guitar into the air Nirvana-style and it comes crashing down with a grinding whimper. Of course, he effed it up so it couldn't be used and the song came to an embarrassing halt while one roadie tried to fix the messed up guitar and another tuned a back-up. Let's hope Rick's in better form at Billy Bob's. And yes, I'll still pay to see him...

UPDATED w/photos: Dallas minister threatened for fashion policing as new billboards target baggy pant offenders

I wonder why there's no discussion about why kids do this. According to some social expert or other on NPR (Does that pass the reference test?), the baggy pants come from prison culture. When a convict is sent to prison for the first time he is stripped of all items including his belt. When he has to do his inagural "glory walk" across the yard to his cell, his pants sag below his skivvies. So long as it feels good to be a gangsta, I suspect this trend will continue - fly billboards be damned.

Tipped off by pet parrot, Dallas homeowner shoots burglar in the act

Kirk, as a female who studies the art of kung fu, who has been assaulted more than once, and who believes that self-defense is the only reason for violence, let me tell you that I would shoot the bastard in a heartbeat - no questions asked. Oh wait, I don't own a gun, and I'm Texan...oh crap, there goes that stereotype. Protect the homestead okay, Kirk? I'm pretty sure burglars know that they're doing something wrong and that when you do something wrong there are consequences. If they don't know that already, well, it's high time they learned.

Cycling tickets on the rise at White Rock Lake

Rick and Kirk, ya'll are cute and all, but amid your comments and flirtations I think the point got a little muddied:

    1) Helmets saves lives and prevent injuries.

    2) The govt. shouldn't have a say in whether its citizens want to save themselves from harm.

In short: You're a dumbass if you choose to go helmet-free, and it is your right to be a dumbass.

UPDATED: Deaf man in Fort Worth beaten with crowbar for . . . not being able to hear

Holy cow. I can just barely understand the coin throwing, considering we're talking a Family (wha?) Dollar Store. But I would never expect to be cold-cocked for being 'disrespectful' (or deaf, as it were). In light of the lack of response from FD, you'll find me perusing the aisles of The Dollar Tree from now on. Good luck, Cody.

UPDATED: Cedars district resident isn't fond of the noise at Lee Harvey's

I'm a little late to the party, but I can't help but comment. Poor, poor PAMPAS. So sad and bitter. I bet you're that guy who goes to a bar and complains that it's smoky and full of drunk people. I have some advice: Comb back that graying, wispy hair of yours and try to remember back to when you knew what fun was. At the very least, invest in a pair of ear plugs and some rosy-tinted visors. They might help cut the bitterness.
