Anti-illegal immigration "tea party" being held in Fort Worth

Because what better to do on a beautiful fall Saturday than to oppress other human beings. Bravo teabaggers!

Papou’s Greek Kitchen and Taverna in Lakewood no longer open

Dallas' Greek food situation has been sad ever since Z closed down his spot. I just wait for the food festival every year. Ziziki's is all we've got, y'all.

Dallas frozen yogurt meltdown: Nana Frozen Yogurt in Frisco

I don't think I'm ever gonna make it past Pinkberry at Preston/Royal. Frisco schmisco.

    Al-Amir (Closed)

What happened to Al-Amir Dallas? I drove by the other day and it was gone. Looked like something else might already be operating out of the space. I thought Al-Amir was a fun place for sort of an "event" dinner...too bad.

The Pearl Cup Espresso Bar & Coffee Shop

LOVE the Pearl Cup. Owners are great. Baked stuff is fantastic. The atmosphere is adorable and it's nice to see something besides a bar (though I have nothing against bars) in this area. Only complaint is the hours...coffee is for night owls, too!

Phones at Angelika in Dallas are down indefinitely

One cannot order tickets thru the Angelika phone anyway. Besides, the best film of the year is Slumdog Millionaire, and it's playing at the Magnolia. Their phones are working just fine, btw.

Dallas Morning News names top 10 new restaurants for 2008

Sigh. I have only been to one of these, and I saw a mouse there.

    Tio's Tortas (Closed)

I liked it too but it was totally empty each time I went, maybe 3 times total. Like scary empty.

Dysfunctional D Magazine blogs place Dallas media in paralysis

I went there to find info on local reaction to the Mark Cuban insider trading story! Pick up the slack, Pegasus!

    Amuse (Closed)

Amuse is closed and the location will be reopened on Tuesday 9/2 as a Tex-Mex restaurant (Sala). Amuse has plans to move to Victory Park in a few months.

Proposed Dallas smoking ban a sticky issue for gay bars

I disapprove of what you smoke, but I will defend to the death your right to smoke it.

    Exposition Park Cafe (Closed)

The Dallas Observer reports this week that Exposition Park Cafe has closed its doors. Another funky, fun independent spot down. This time, apparently, it could be DART's fault. But then, what isn't? Color me sad.

Nodding Dog coffeehouse in Dallas' Bishop Arts district appears to have shut down

This is actually quite sad. I hate to see independent coffeeshops go down in Dallas. There are so few. Nodding Dog was a fun location, had a nice space, friendly staff, and I never had a problem with the coffee, but then I live too far to try it on a regular basis. I wish I could open something in that adorable spot. Plus I know tons about coffee. Maybe it could be just me and a french press? Cash only?

I do agree that Cafe Brazil is in no way a coffeehouse - please, those beans must sit there for months. And all those ridiculous flavors? Sheesh. Get a milkshake if that's what you want.

Best Bites: Dining out in Dallas-Fort Worth June 27

I tried out Crooked Tree the other day. And then went again. The place is GREAT and the coffee is good too, of course.

    Nueva Casita

Did anyone notice that Casita Dominguez appears to have changed hands? I drove by yesterday and all the signs were changed to "Nueva Casita." I hadn't heard of this and don't know anyone who has eaten there since the change. Thoughts?

Best Bites: Dining out in Dallas-Fort Worth May 9

Hope the music at Opening Bell II is better than the coffee. Sorry, but I've given the SSoL shop several chances. I know independent coffee shops have a tough time (that's why I don't own one). But you have GOT to bring something to the table. Nothing I hate more than wishing I'd just gone to Starbucks.

Chaucer's Steaks & Sushi to open branch in Dallas' West End

And if anyone wants the 10000 square ft space in Mockingbird Station that Chaucer's occupied for five minutes, it's been sitting empty since and is surely available. Remember this?

R.I.P. Mockingbird Station restaurants: Cafe Patrique, Chaucer's, Noodles Kitchen, Ollie and Lei's Luau, Spike, & Gelato Paradiso

UPDATEDx2: Former DART chair Lynn Flint Shaw found dead in apparent murder-suicide

Most recent is that they both called the son and told him they were going to do it. Both willingly. Can't imagine a call like that. Don't want to. How bad could it have been?
