Lone Star Wind Orchestra - From Dallas to Valencia: A Cultural Concert
If you have not yet visited Valencia, you must! What a fabulous city! One thing that makes it so awesome is that on one side, you have the ancient old city dating back to 1400s. On the other side of town, you have Ultra-Modern City of Science and Arts. This area includes Europes's largest acquarium, too! People are cultured, courteous and friendly. Valencianos take pride in their city, as they should. Now Dallasites have a chance to go hear the music of this magnificent city. So Do Not Miss The Sunday, Jan. 29 Concert!!!

Video with Anastacia Quinones, execuchef at Alma in Dallas
I watched video of Anastacia and applaud her success. I especially enjoyed hearing that her mother served as inspiration. If she was happy in California, the fact that she returned to Dallas because of her mom's health says a lot. Thanks to Anastacia, I may actually visit the Alma restaurant soon.

Dallas-Fort Worth could get new Hispanic-majority congressional district
Your ancestors didn't worry about "anchor babies" or "Illegals" when they worked their farms and ranches starting 100 years ago, and up to Today. So why worry about that now?

Review: The Lost Manuscripts of the Sistine Chapel at the Meadows Museum at SMU
Very Good Story! The archbishop's first name should read: Francisco not Francesco. This was an error on the press release that was not corrected before being diseminated.

Love Field statue moved to Frontiers of Flight Museum
Although I'm aware of the truth behind some of the Texas Rangers, for me the statue represents my youth. That's because I was a teen when I first saw it. I had also just arrived in Dallas to live with my dad. Dad and most everyone I talked to in 1967, said I should go see Love Field. They talked about watching the planes fly into the city. The folks that said this was fun were teenagers like me. So the lone Texas Ranger statue is nostalgic for me. I'm Sooooooo glad his departure is temporary!

Dallas City Hall posts photos of Calatrava Bridge taken by remote-control plane
Dallasites might not be proud of Santiago Calatrava's bridge right now, but I think they will be in the future. Aside from that, it will bring more distinction to the Big D. Last October, I was actually in Calatrava's hometown of Valencia, Spain. One of the things that made this European city so awesome, was Calatrava's monumental architecture. It had breathed new life into the ancient city El Cid had helped defend. Valencia-Spain's third largest and most important city-offers unique contrasting views. In the ancient part of the city, there are giant stone walls dating back to the 11th century. But take a taxi, bus or drive out toward the Mediterrean and you see one of the most "futuristic" sites on the planet. In fact, Calatrava is now called the "Father of Valencia" for revitalizing that area. In addition to the soaring bridge, you'll see a soaring aquarium, the largest in Europe. I could go on and on, but I will simply say that Dallas should be proud of what's to come and embrace the new Calatrava Bridge!

Plano African American Museum's grant request sparks debate
To: METROPLEXMUSEUM CONSULTING: Get Real and Accurate Information Before Proclaiming that the history of a couple of streets deserve to be ordained "historic" neighborhoods. Since I have lived in Plano since 1976, I can tell you that most folks feared walking around the Douglas commun. That is because of the high crime that existed. But pouring lots of money into it gives the mistaken impression that it is safe and "history" and "funding" worthy So MetroplexMuseum Consulting, you are probably from DALLAS any ways! If not, you need to get real and be Fair! Who among US doesn't have ancestors worthy of a Plano Museum?

Many reasons to love the new Ranch 99 Market in Plano
Jason & Travis are Both Wrong. As a 33-year resident, I can tell you that Plano is Very, Very ETHNIC. I remember when I had to drive to Greenville Ave. in Dallas to get delicious Mexican pastries. Not now! In Plano today you can get anything from around the World! For example, Iran is alive and well in the form a bakeries and cafes. Lebanon comes through at Fadi's. Germany is at U.S. 75 and Parker Rd. in the form of the Bavarian Inn. Greece is everywhere, West & East thanks to Kosta's! And the list goes on! Avenue K is now the domain of Latin America. Stores, shops, restaurants and all manner of business abound on Ave. K in East Plano. That's THANKS TO THE IMMIGRANTS! Thanks to GLOBALIZATION & IMMIGRATION!

Plano African American Museum's grant request sparks debate
Since I'm a 33-year Plano resident, I don't want MY TAX DOLLARS to go to a museum that focuses on one single group! I think the whole idea of a black museum is RIDICULOUS!!! Who among US does not trace their roots to IMMIGRANT parents, grandparents and great-grandparents? Why are MY ANCESTORS not being honored with a Museum? Where will all the Segregation stop? Let's erect a Museum to honor all the Mexicans-most illegal- who Built Plano's fancy neighborhoods!! Let's finally give Mexican laborers recognition for their backbreaking work, which includes picking cotton, tomatoes, and everything Americans Eat Daily! Then talk to me about building a museum for One Single Group!

This is what' great about being a subscriber to Pegasus News newsletter. I get to read what I didn't know anything about! For example, KERA's El General tonight is of great interest to me. First of all, I'd never heard of this award-winning documentary, and second, I just read a book on Mexico's bloody revolution. So I will definitely turn on the plasma tonight!

Trader Vic's Dallas selling off innards piece by piece
Dear Teresa: Thank You for letting us know that Trader Vic is Selling Off Its Interior Decor! I will call them ASAP! Why? Too many years ago my hubby worked at Trader Vic's. He quit when he was drafted during Vietnam war, the same year we got married. We've always wanted to go to Trader Vic's in Dallas. Back when he worked there in 1968 we could not afford to go there. Later on, as a GI meeting me for R&R in Hawaii, he took me to a Trader Vic's in Oahu! So I hope we're not too late to visit and buy a piece of memorabilia!

Pizza Patron's Antonio Swad to open Latin restaurant-bar in American Airlines Center
I really "admire" Antonio Swad!! He had the guts to allow his patrons to use Pesos! That to me was Genius! Even if GOP members tried to discredit Swad for taking Pesos, he forged ahead! Good for him and I will absolutely visit his AAC location! It's time we begin thinking about how we all can make more Pesos instead of trying to belittle and criticize people who have the balls to go out and start New Businesses! Pesos or No Pesos Jason!

Audio interview: Restrepo filmmaker Tim Hetherington and SGM Lamonta Caldwell
I don't know what Restrepo means to movie-going, single-language speaking Americans, but in Spanish Restrepo is a Sur Name! That is why the title of this upcoming film caught my attention: What does "Restrepo" have to do with the war in Afghanistan? So I opted to read your story on this film. I still fail to see the reason it's called Restrepo. So "good luck" on marketing and promotion of the film! No doubt Restrepo has been "restructured and mangled" in much the same way VALDEZ, is habitually mispronounced by so-called TV journalists. Nevertheless, I will be sure to read more reviews before I go see the new film.

Cafe Madrid in Oak Cliff closed
Although I'm sorry that Cafe Madrid closed in Oak Cliff, I think a branch of it would do very well in Plano. Years ago we noticed that upscale restaurants had discovered our fair city. They include but are not limited to Patricio's, Celebrity Bakery and Kosta's. So I think Cafe Madrid owners would do well to explore Plano as a branch of Cafe Madrid in Dallas.

Sausage restaurant Everyone's Frank to open 20 branches around Dallas
In the above story on the opening of Everyone's Frank, I saw this: "Each customer, with their "meet" of choice stuck under their Costanzo roll can... Did the writer misspell the word meat? My hobby is proofing, so I think he meant to spell "meat," and it's the only word that makes sense here. As for Everyone's, I have a coupon for a Free Frank at the Plano location. I will be frank about Everyone's Frank, after I visit.

There are only a few times when you work for a hometown newspaper that you get to type bad words in headlines. Here's one: "Police say woman accused of Home Depot robbery grabbed guard's genitals."
Your comment, "there are only a few times when you work for a hometown newspaper that you get to type bad words in headlines" made me laugh aloud. I recall working as a reporter at the McKinney Courier Gazette, where headlines often made people wonder about not only reporters but editors in charge. But a shortage of staffers made it necessary to wear more than one hat while working there. Typos and outrageous headlines were a constant source of amusement, laughter and even embarrassment for reporters, editors and readers as well. In retrospect, however, I would not trade that "journalistic experience" for anything in the world.

Racial slurs by Dallas radio personalities show hatred of Hispanics runs deep
Dear Mr. Gouldin: For the record, President Richard Nixon "coined" the term Hispanic. In his infinite intelligence, Mr. Nixon thought this was the best way to refer to anyone whose mother language was Spanish. Too bad because the talking dogs and other print media personnel picked up on it. That's when they messed up the thinking of many Anglo Americans. Why? Most Anglo-Americans and blacks can't understand that while many group speak Spanish, that's where the similarities end. If you are a Mexican, it is because your ancestors came from Mexico. If you're ancestors came from Colombia, you call yourself Colombian and so on. So as for Hispanic being a race of people it is not. If that is the case, then we can say that Jew or being Jewish is a race, and we all know that it is not. I hope this helps you understand that many of those from Spanish-speaking countries are "Caucasian" as well as something else. That something else, depending on the country, can be a number of races and ethnic groups. Spanish-speakers can be: Asian, black (due to the Spanish slave trade in Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republica, but hardly any in Mexico. So read up on the Hispanics, Latinos and especially the mother country of Spain!

Racial slurs by Dallas radio personalities show hatred of Hispanics runs deep
People in Dallas-particularly those on racist radio stations such as KLIF, WBAP and others-need to stop the Hypocrisy! Anyone who has lived in the Dallas area, or anywhere in Texas, knows that were it not for Hispanic immigrants, nothing would get done! Today is a perfect example: A plumbing company had to send "ditch diggers" to my PLANO home first before they could find a Slab Leak. Where were the Anglo & Black Ditch Diggers? There were not any! Then a full-grown bush had to be removed from my front yard in order to get to the Slab Leak. So again, enter the ILLEGAL ALIENS, they will now replace my bush to fill in the huge gap left by the plumbing company after it repaired my Slab Leak. Where were the hard-working Anglos we hear crying about so-called "illegal immigrants" taking their jobs?
The ruby-red truth about Dallas, Texas and the entire Southwest is that it was "Built on the "Backs of Illegal Immigrant" Labor! Racist mouthpieces on radio and in the GOP are not fooling the rest of the world about the treatment of a select group of people. The world is watching and listening. The world knows Anglo-Americans want their lawns mowed, landscaping done, ditches dug, food prepared and so on, but they want for Free! They don't want this same "select group" to have any citizenship rights. In fact, they want so-called "illegal immigrants" to remain in the shadows. Why? That way, the USA will always have a fresh supply of SLAVE LABOR!
And that is WRONG in any language and in any country!

I hang out at Legacy & Bishop area regularly, and the only place to get a MEXICAN food fix is Taco Diner. My grandma used to make fantastic Empanadas! But I didn't learn how. Since my darling Abuela passed, I yearn for Empanadas the way grandma used to make them. And Empanadas & More Sounds as if they will fit the need!

Diego Rivera: The Cubist Portraits, 1913-1917
Your Blurb on the extraordinary Diego Rivera exhibit at the Meadows Museum-on the campus of Southern Methodist University-left out some important information. So Listen Up: Thursday evenings starting at 5PM, everyone gets into the exhibit FREE!! They can stand in awe of Mexico's greatest artist/muralist until 8PM on Thursdays. To "sweeten" the free deal, the Meadows has a stable of "Docents" that lead visitors on a knowledgable, guided tour at 6:30PM each Thursday. The exhibit is really worth seeing, and we in DALLAS are very fortunate to have a place like the Meadows Museum in our town. When I went the first time, I knew nothing about Mr. Rivera and his art. I thought I'd here how Frida Kahlo met and lived with Rivera. But NO. This exhibit takes you from Mexico, where Rivera was born, to Madrid and Paris. That's why his artwork is so fantastic! And that's why you better hurry. The Diego Rivera exhibit ends on Sept. 20th! If you can't go to the FREE Thursday showing. You can go 10 to 5 pm Saturdays and Noon to 5 pm Sundays. Call (214) 768-2516. ONLINE:www.meadowmuseumdallas.org Do what ever but GO!!!!!
