Theater Spotlight of the Week: Katherine Owens
I recently attended a performance of Undermain's critically acclaimed urban ghost story "Shining City" by Irish playwright Conor McPherson. Terrific acting (despite pre-conceived doubts about Texas actors playing Irish roles), sharp directing by Katharine Owens, and the perfect setting for a ghost story made this production truly haunting.
Bruce DuBose was dead-on in the title role, most notably in an ambitious 30-minute monologue which should be one for the record books.
While you should be prepared to be spooked out of your seat, the real fright aspect of the play is the ghost that follows you out the door as you are forced to acknowledge your own demons.
