    Outbursts

"You can find Outbursts via the new yellow tab at the top of every page and a "Latest Outbursts" feed on the side rail of each page." I see the yellow tab and the latest outbursts on inside pages but no latest outbursts box on homepage. Is it time for a visit to my optometrist or is my mac being unfaithful to me?

    It's a'stormin' out there

I realize that Oncor has been terribly busy and judging by all the tweets I have received since the storms passed through, that its communications folks have been working in overdrive. I did feel I needed to pass along a recent tweet that just got us all laughing here. "oncor: Customers without power through the night are encouraged to turn on porch lights to assist crews in identifying problems."

Oncor wants electricity customers to pay $93 million for smart meters they’ll never use

and even though my power is still out due to the storm I bet I still have to pay my 2 bucks this month ... not to mention the double-billing last month (grumble, grumble)

City of Garland cancels Fourth of July celebration

    Sssshhhhh...yeah, it's little 'd'...

Chris-yes, we love the activities and I even proposed to my girlfriend last year in the parade, stopped the whole darned thing right in front of city hall (she said "yes"). Wrote a column about it called "A Parade to Remember" on my autoworldtoday.net website, last one on the archive list.

City of Garland cancels Fourth of July celebration

my little town here still shows the holiday festivities on but city employees are taking furlough days without pay and losing city-paid dental coverage to make up for huge budget shortfall. Happy Fourth!

    Twit. Tweet. Twhat?

I love it. I have always had blackberry envy and now I can look like I am just as important as everyone else who is constantly reading their phones. Reminds me of when I got my first pager and everyone in the movie theaters thought i was a doctor....

    Not everyone has Obamania

So you all are saying I have to hang an ugly flag in my front yard just to demonstrate my lack of enthusiasm with the incoming administration? Whew, thank goodness Hootie just came on Grand Ole Opry. Talk about change...

Besieged Cherry Pit in Duncanville raided again

Ya'all remember that airline story a few weeks ago, the one where an old news story was picked back up and ran as new? Well, Deja Vu, and shame on DMN and others for not checking out the validity of the story. Seems the old story was picked back up and even the quotes in the new story were from previous reports. It's called a telephone and it's a great tool.

Dallas-based Belo enters into strategic partnership with Noofangle Media

This post says Belo, so I am assuming only for the TV and cable websites and not the newspapers? Or is this the real reason part of DMN video team took buyouts?

    More cowbell!

COWBELL WARNING IN DUNCANVILLE! Found this cowbell warning on the Duncanville Panther Football website: "Cowbell Warning!! We have been advised that the new cowbells interior ball has a tendency to fall out of the bell. The remedy is to simply use a pair of pliers to crimp the balls attachment wire loop slightly tighter where it connects to the interior of the bell. So bring the noise, but bring it safely………”

Dallas officials going door-to-door to beg children not to drop out of school

I think I only heard one tiny mention of a driving force behind this "roundup." On a certain day early in the school year, the state makes the districts count bottoms in seats in classrooms and the state's payment to the districts is based upon this number (or something like this). Schools are strongly encouraged to have as many students in the classrooms on that day. I agree with the arguments that HAVE been made public concerning the future of our communities being better and safer the more we educate our youth, but perhaps a bit more disclosure on another key aspect of the roundup would be in order. And how will the districts feel about rounding up kids over the next month or two once the count date has come and gone?

Fancy update on fountain across from Dallas Morning News gets big writeup in Dallas Morning News

They had to write about something since it appears they have once again abandoned the burbs (except plano and frisco or course), re: the re-tooled (pun intended) metro section starting aug. 31.

Mac OSX Firefox spinning pinweel of death?

network traffic? did you check your bandwidth speed? ours seemed slow at times yesterday and I was using both safari and FF. I use speedtest.net or something like that. Did britney and madonna kiss again? maybe the traffic was overloaded with a viral video of them being adopted by brad and angelina

UPDATED: Duncanville's Cherry Pit swingers' club raided -- again

Hey, they needed something, anything, to get the heat off the "weeds in the sidewalks cracks" fiasco that dominated headlines just a few days before. Looks like it worked. Not sure if they had code enforcement out at the Cherry Pit looking for weeds in the cracks though...

Duncanville's Main Street has no easy fixes

Funny, I remember once upon a time when DART came looking for a sales tax hike to put trains and buses in our little town. A resounding "NO" was the answer. The quiet whispers had folks worried that mass transit would bring "undesirables" to town. The no apparently did not work. We got crime, we got killings, we got pit bulls. We have to put our lives on hold every afternoon when school lets out as "all hands on deck" surround the high school (and now middle schools) for the daily fight clubs. We got empty beer bottles laying right in front of the post office door. Now, who are we still trying to keep out again?

UPDATED: Fort Worth Star Telegram executes surprise layoffs on Thursday

I love how the "official" statement qualifies that this will affect less than 1.5 percent of the staff. BULLdookey. It is going to AFFECT everyone who works there, all walking around like deer caught in the headlights. "Am I next, what now, do we all have to work harder now for the same pay?" Less than 1.5 percent my arse.

OUCH! You know it's true when it makes primetime. Where are my doan's pills? I think I will spend the rest of the day writing my obituary. I don't mind being called a dinosaur I just want to be able to pick a cool one, like tricerotop or pterodactyl (sp?). As my last will and testament, I bequeath my Hot Wheels collection to Nelson Muntz.

Does Dallas Morning News unfairly represent black people?

In the interest of fairness and journalism (as this was listed under business news and not a column or commentary) what was DMNs side of the story? How does their content relate to their subscriber/advertiser demographics?
